a comprehensible, simplistic book with tons of meaning. a good reminder that we are what we make of ourselves. that life is not always as serious as it seems, nor as real as we make it out to be.

i read this book in the 7th grade. it was the first book to make a lasting impression on me.

unfortunately, i can speak no language besides english fluently. so when writing about books that are translated i feel silly saying- i love the diction and syntax. this book is very good though, several short vignettes which take place is a single village. the stories are human, nothing more, depicting human life- all its pettiness, fears, dreams, hopes…..full of layered meaning, yet comprehensible to all.
