imagine your watching a documentary on the discovery channel about the NASA space station, but instead its an hour and thirty minute movie that happens to be directed by danny boyle. it is particularly stunning and beautiful. the best part about all of this is that it has cliff curtis in it.. you might remember him from planet terror, and the last die hard movie. and watch it on IMAX ok
my first reaction from reading this book is that it is far too outdated. and it will surely deter readers. that were not born or alive in the 70’s or the 80’s. the subjects he talks about include personas such as billy joel, pamela anderson, saved by the bell when it was still on nbc, my so called life when it still airing on mtv. so you get my drift. klosterman chooses subjects that inherently affected him when he was still growing up and while he was in college, there afterwards. this book is divided into several different stories but in reality they are all through the paradigm of the author’s life and his own opinons. which i guess the greater story in the end. [chokes] but yeah, sex, drugs, and cocoa puffs is good but not in the conventional sense.
i wish i could have wrote this story differently. truthfully, i probably would have liked animal farm more than this book. at least that’s what will keep me sane tonight. ahem. i’m a bit jaded now.
p.s. why am i such a pessemist? “tie the ropes to her hair, then she’ll feel it.”
this book had no substance at all. i felt nothing for any of the characters, or chianski for that matter. it’s sad..
for all those looking for a book to devour from page to page. look no further. ham and rye is one of the most exhilarating rides through childhood, growing up, staying at home with parents. bukowski has a talent in creating the most awry situation, and making you laugh out loud! i would recommend it to anyone who feels life has suddenly slipped by, too fast. a good pick up.
the kite runner tells a story of a young boy named Amir, who lives in Kabul, Afghanistan. And has been pampered for most of his life… this book is a 9/10. trust me, i cant give anything away.
