A story about "Weird U.S.: Your Travel Guide to America's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets (Weird)" — 3 years ago

I didn’t really enjoy this one as much as Weird NJ. A lot of the stories in it are repeats of each other, just in different locations. I know that’s sort of the nature of urban legends, but still. The repetition really wore on me and in the end the whole book felt like kind of a gyp. I’m glad it was a gift and that I didn’t spend $30 on it myself.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Kind of a strange movie. Enjoyable on an extremely mellow level. Not the best movie I’ve ever seen but not the worst. Interesting cast, to say the least. Wil Wheaton, Soleil Moon Frye, and even the long-lost Jay Underwood?!? It’s an 80s kid’s dream!

Why I recommend "V for Vendetta (Widescreen Edition)" — 3 years ago

EXCELLENT MOVIE! I never much cared for Natalie Portman before Garden State, but I’ve since come to respect her as an actress and she did a good job of reconfirming that in this movie (despite her questionable mastery of the British accent). Hugo Weaving is, as ever, brilliant.

I could have so much more to say about this film but I don’t want to give anything away. That said, I highly recommend it. It does make you wonder how far a government will go, i.e. secure peace vs. prepare for war, essentially.

despite the fact that I love Sarah Polley — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

this movie is BORING. I nearly fell asleep several times over trying to get through it. It’s one of those movies that takes itself a bit too seriously.

Why I recommend "Fahrenheit 9/11" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Even if you hate Michael Moore, he makes some excellent points. There’s a lot of stuff in F9/11 that was kept very under wraps for the longest time, and it raises some important questions.

It’s a shame it didn’t come out a little bit longer before the last presidential election. Maybe this latest disaster could’ve been avoided.

excellent movie — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I rarely like movies everyone else loves, but in this case, I do. Excellent cast, excellent performances, excellent examples of how we all have to make split-second decisions and how apparently, we all have our prejudices even when we think we don’t. Great, great movie.

A review of "Clue" — 3 years ago

A friend of mine demanded that I watch this movie—never a good sign. It certainly wasn’t the worst thing I ever saw, but it was a little too obvious for me with all the slapstick and the buffoonery. Really not my sort of movie. Excellent cast, though, so points for effort.

A review of "Fathers and Sons" — 3 years ago

Despite the great cast, I found this movie fairly boring overall. What I did enjoy was the third vignette, mainly because it starred the gorgeous and talented Gale Harold.

Why I recommend "Tipping the Velvet" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I expected not to like this very much mainly due to the fact that it is so, so British. But I ended up liking it a lot. Rachael Stirling’s character, Nan, is beautiful and charming and shy all at once. She was my favorite part.

Hard to understand the accent through most of it, but definitely worth watching.
