WORTH CONSUMING!

For the most part, I’d probably end up using it for background music—I don’t find it to be the kind of album you really need to sit and just listen to all on its own, but it’s decent.

I bought it probably a year ago at least, but this was the first time I just sat here and listened to it all the way through.

A review of "Evolve" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m a HUGE Ani Difranco fan and I own all her albums. I’m not reviwing them in any particular order—I just happened to start with this one tonight.

Evolve is where Ani’s basically coming to terms with maturing. She’s past the initial bitterness of early adulthood, while holding onto enough of it that she doesn’t become complacent—yet she’s really honed the skill of recognizing beauty in diversity and singing its praises. She knows that by speaking up, by singing out, she’s helping bring awareness to any number of causes and to just the basic idea of being a good person simply for its own sake.

On every one of Ani’s albums there is at least one requisite “political” song (and on most there are several)—Evolve’s is “Serpentine”, which is about political corruption and the disgusting power of Corporate America.

Why I recommend "Where the Red Fern Grows" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I first read this book during the sixth grade. It’s a really sweet story about a boy and his two dogs… but it’s a lot more than that. It’s about trust and friendship and loss and coping with that loss. It’s one of those books that makes me cry every time I read it, but I like that about it.

A review of "Bridget Jones's Diary" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I hate to say it because it makes me feel very sheeplike, but I actually really enjoyed BOTH Bridget Jones books. I’m not quite as neurotic as Bridget, but I related to her on a levels, but while being able to laugh at the feelings as well. I like a book that can do that for me.

And honestly I enjoyed the book a lot more than the movie, though despite my usual feeling of annoyance by all things Zellweger, I must say she did a damn good job of playing Bridget.

Book was definitely better, though.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read this book at least a year ago. It started off slowly, but it got better a few chapters in and I ended up really liking it. Karr’s description of The First Kiss is stunning—that has stuck with me most out of anything in the entire book.

I should find out if she’s written more stuff—I might be interested in reading more if she has.

A review of "The Toy" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not quite as great as I remembered, but still worth watching again. Richard Pryor is a funny guy. Funnier is the fact that Master Bates grew up to be a porn star. Funnier still is the bit in the toy store when behind Richard Pryor you see a giant Monchichi and a display advertising IntelliVision. !!!

Why I want to consume "The Toy" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Apparently when I was a kid this was one of my favorite movies. I can remember it only vaguely, so now I want to see it again to see if I still love it the way I did then.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s actually a cute movie, and pretty clever—in one bit they pay homage to E.T.. Luk the polar bear is pretty cute too, and I could swear s/he was animated by the same person who draws the Charmin bear. Same face, same booty-shaking dance.
