A story about "Garden" — 5 years ago
Except for the “noodle” tracks, this album is much more melodic than their other two albums. Some of their die-hard fans may see it as giving in to mainstream expectations, but I see it as good early synth music.

A common reaction to this album is initial hatred, followed by becoming curious enough about it to want to give it a few more listens, follwed in turn by fascination with the album, followed by simply loving it. Such was my reaction. Check out European Son and marvel at the fact that every little bit of feedback in that track was supposed to be there. There’s lots of feedback, distortion, and noise on this album, and it got me fascinated with the concept of noise as music.
I just got into Os Mutantes a month ago and I can’t stop listening to their first 2 albums! Great, great stuff, even though I don’t know any Portuguese.
This is gonna sound weird coming from someone who’s consumed the albums I have, but Eternal Flame is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Wow, people really hate this album lol! I think it’s great! On the other hand I could see why people who listen to this album expecting the same kinds of songs as on Rumours end up being disappointed. Although the Mac were moving away from blues rock by the time of this album, they were still an entirely different band from the Fleetwood Mac most people know. Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer had both left by this point, but Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham had not yet joined the group. Personally I think that this album is a lot better than the overplayed and way overrated Rumours.
