A story about "The Tears of the Sun: A Novel of the Change (Change Series)" — 11 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was excited to continue the series, but i found this book difficult to get into at first so it took a lot longer for me to read then the others.

A review of "Kingpin: How One Hacker Took Over the Billion-Dollar Cybercrime Underground" — 40 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the best book I’ve read all year. I couldn’t put it down, as a person in the security field it was a very captivating tale.

A review of "Your Life, Uploaded: The Digital Way to Better Memory, Health, and Productivity" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this book. I’ve been in the process of going digital with all my stuff for several years and have accomplished a lot. This book will give you some basics on getting started, but I’ve your already doing this, don’t expect many ideas on advanced topics.

This book really focuses on what you can accomplish by having all your stuff in a digital way and what the future can potentially hold. I suspect that if your a software developer you will get a very good idea on what you could do with a product. He goes so far a to list several key areas of development and the types of companies that he would invest in to get the products out there.

I should also point out that the main focus is on getting your physical stuff into the computer. But very little is mentioned about all the current digital outputs out there. I would have like to see some mention of dealing with the systems like twitter, facebook, etc. and how to get this into your digital memory. I’ve done pretty well with some aspects of this and getting my lifestream in order. Perhaps his next book will address this area.

Overall a good read and written in a nice conversational style which makes it an enjoyable and quick read.

Smokehouse — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Good short book on building a smoke house. I would have given it 5 stars, but I was really hoping it would cover traditional old time smoke houses that you could build on the farm with local materials. The ideas are good combined with input from some older folks around here who had a smoke house growing up, I think I have a design i can build from.

Great Book — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Another great book in a really great series. Even though this is new book I’m ready for the next one.

A story about "Batman" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve watched this several times since it originally came out way back when. But today was a special treat. Me and my 4 year old were at my parents when he discovered the VHS that’s been there since when ever that was released. With all the recent batman stuff on TV lately he decided he wanted to watch it. Of course the none action scenes bored him and he still doesn’t under stand secret identities, but I’m pretty sure he is a fan now, he even got a Batman lunch box :)

A story about "Little Brother" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I started reading the free download version and decided to support Cory Doctorow by buying the hardcopy. I thought this was an awesome book. So many good elements to it I couldn’t really stop reading it and finished it up quickly. I know it’s for young adults but it also good for infosec folks.

Stealing the Network: How to Own an Identity — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve found this book to be a entertaining read, easier at night then reading a full blown tech book but with all the geeky goodness.

A review of "WALL·E" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I took the family out to see this on opening night. I thought this was a great movie with a great underlying message. From a 4 year olds perspective “we need a real Wall-E at home”. He sat there and watched the whole thing and loved it, him sitting still for that length of time is a miracle itself :)

A review of "Zero Day Threat: The Shocking Truth of How Banks and Credit Bureaus Help Cyber Crooks Steal Your Money and Identity" — 3 years ago

I read this book because I really wanted to find the shocking truth about how banks help cyber crooks steal your money. What I found was some stories about crimes that have been committed, which I have read about before, but with more detail. What I didn’t find was much on how banks help with stealing money. It focused mostly on the Payment Card Industry and Credit Bureaus which do seem to help, but not really anything from the banking side that could actually be used to make a bank more secure.
