A story about "Infinite Jest: A Novel" — 1 year ago

Back when “Infinite Jest” was first published, I starting reading it.

It was great reading. Fast paced.

But the subject matter was all about people’s addictions.
At that point in time, I didn’t want to read about more people’s addictions. I’ve read much of the Beatnik generation’s work to have had enough of that genre.

More than a decade has passed since then.
I’m gonna try to tackle this hefty book, again.

It’s a matter of endurance today.

A story about "The Women" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Saw the play version of “The Women,” which it was initially intended to be absorbed.

Back in 2002, a Broadway theater company acquired permission to produce the play. Thankfully, PBS taped it, which I saw. The next best thing to seeing it live.

Definitely worth watching. Clare Booth Luce keenly portrays women, and the play transcends time.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "You're Wearing That?: Understanding Mothers and Daughters in Conversation" — 2 years ago

This book had been calling out to me ever since it was first published. I waited for the price to go down, and bought it.

The first chapter or so, the book wasn’t calling out to me in its words. I’m hoping further chapters will do that.

Another issue: The book’s subject seems a little too close to home right now.

So I’ve put it down for now.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "The Moon and Six Pence" — 2 years ago

Well, the book was misplaced.

I found it while my hubbie and I were cleaning the house.

It’s gonna wait though. I want to finish “Sweet Thursday” first, which may lead to a Steinbeck read-a-thon!

WORTH CONSUMING!

The beginning of the book has commentary from the characters of “Cannery Row,” a superb book by John Steinbeck.

It was surreal reading this fictional commentary.

It makes me want to read “Cannery Row” over again. I read it more than two decades ago!

I’m a sucker for Steinbeck. The thought of re-reading all of the books I’ve read of his, plus the ones I haven’t, is most enticing!

A week after I started reading this book I misplaced it.

So I’ve been reading other stuff.

Blah.

A story about "Animal Farm" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

“Animal Farm” is a tremendous book, and it doesn’t take long to read.

It’s a true eye-opener; not an optimistic one regarding the heart of man.

Orwell doesn’t tell me much I don’t know, because I’ve read “1984” and other books in this genre. However, the way he tells this story, it hits you smack in the gut.
