A story about "Bubble" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Everything about this movie is somewhat strange. First of all, I’m a netflix subscriber. I did not even order this movie. It came by mistake. I knew nothing about it, but I recognized the name Steven Soderbergh so I figured I’d give it a try. It also said on the DVD cover that he made this movie with no-named actors.

I watched the movie and it was just okay. They are no only no-named actors, these people aren’t even real or good actors. So I wasn’t sure what to make of it while I was watching. However, it didn’t bore me. It’s like watching and arty, independant film. So be prepared for that. You get to know three people who live in a small town in America. Non-glamorous people just living their every day lives. I think none of them are happy.

By the end of the movie, I thought it was just okay. Kind of because I didn’t get the whole, non-actor thing, but it added some realness and grittiness to the movie. Then I watched the extra features on the DVD. It ends up that these are real people that live in that town. They all have similar lives to these characters and it is just a dream of their to act. I get the impression that there was no real script. That the people were given situations and they made up their own dialoge. And many things about the characters in the film are from the actors real lives.

So, based on this, I think this movie is really unique and I think it is worth watching for people who enjoy movies.

Couldn't get into it — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I really wanted to like this movie because it is about Woody Guthrie and it was nominated for all sorts of awards. But i just could not get into it. Actually, it was so boring I got a headache. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for a drama or something. Be prepared if you are going to watch this that is a story about a person’s life.

Why I recommend "New York Doll" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

wow, i really enjoyed this movie. i didn’t know for sure what to expect, but i guess i thought it would be a documentary about the New York Dolls. and it is partly. But now necessarily about them in their heyday. this documentary focuses on Arthur Kane and the Dolls Reunion Show in London at Morrissey Meltdown summer 2004. You really get to know Arthur Kane and it is quite moving. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys music. You do not need to be familiar with the New York Dolls to enjoy this.

mixed feelings — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i have mixed feelings about this movie. parts were brilliant and parts were boring. parts were intriguing and parts i just didn’t get. i watched it on cable in HD and the cinematography is spectacular – as are the sound effects and classical soundtrack. when i started getting bored i tried to watch it as an art piece to appreciate the direction of it. also, i appreciated it more while remembering how long ago the film was made and how much has changed in our world since. over all, i’m glad i watched it. much of it was just very cool. i’d recommend it to my friends who are thinkers or enjoy the art of film.

different than expected — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i thought this would highlight bob dylan’s entire career. but it really goes up until around after his second album when he started becoming very mainstream. there were some great interviews with bob himself – both past and present. but my favorite part were some of the musical performances. there were probably more performances highlighted from bob’s influences than bob himself, but it helps put his genius into perspective.

no wonder it's a classic — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i know this is a classic but i’ve never seen it before. can they drink any more scotch martini’s in this movie? it cracks me up because they are either drinking or hungover.

Nora: “say, how many drinks have you had?”

Nick: “this will be my sixth martini.”

Nora: “all right, bring me five more martini’s, Leo, and line them up right here.”

this movie is funny as hell! for some reason i thought it was going to be a horror movie. but it’s a comedy with a mystery too! my favorite combo. and their dog is priceless. this movie is the perfect combo for a classic. great performances. wonderful wardrobe and settings. dancing, drinking, old phones . . . it’s comforting to watch. i guess there are a couple more in the series because they made sequels. i’ll have to check them out.

Why I recommend "Debbie Does Dallas Uncovered" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

first of all, this is not a porno movie. there are some nudity scenes, but it is basically ‘R’ rated – or maybe even PG-13 these days. this is a movie about the movie debbie does dallas. there is all sorts of mystery surrounding the movie. the star of the movie who plays debbie mysteriously disappeared in the 80s. is she dead or did she change her identity and run away? there were mob ties and fbi undercover agents discussed. the porn industry was an interesting period and this movie lead the way with porn movies becoming more mainstream. it was worth watching just because it is so different from anything else.

Why I recommend "Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this book! Maybe it is where I am in my life right now, but I have never been truly been inspired by a book by the way I have with this one. It is a cross between a woman’s growth into an independant self that she likes, her travel experiences, and learning about cultures from around the world. The book is separated into three parts. Eat, she is based in Rome and explores Italy. Pray, she is at an ashram in India learning about herself. Love, she is in Bali winding up her adventure and setting her paces for the next step in her life.

Why I recommend "The Notebook (New Line Platinum Series)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

One of my favorite movies of all time. It takes place both in present day in previous years. It’s a complex story with interesting characters and simply warms your heart.
