WORTH CONSUMING!

I can’t say much about this one, since it’s supposed to be all top-secret and stuff (and I am privileged). Suffice to say that I think the author has gathered a lot of maturity in his style and that this one is clearly the best book in the serie. I really liked the different perspectives on the story and the fast-paced events.

My all consuming summary of February, 2008 — 1 year ago

I feel like there really isn’t much to say about February. It’s always something like “the month between Christmas and my birthday” so it’s about midterms and not about consuming fun. The main thing I did consume was Buffy & Angel, again, and that’s about it!

A story about "C.P.E. BACH COMPLETE FLUTE CONCERTOS" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

My brother gave this to me about a year ago as a birthday gift. Patrick Gallois was his ex-girlfriend’s teacher and he really liked these concertos; he often tries to make me discover classical music and enjoy it as he does, which explains the gift!

I’m not a connaisseur (nor actually much of an amateur) of classical music, but I do know that this is very pretty music and that I enjoy listening to it. Patrick Gallois has a wonderful sound. I especially like the first track of all; the first bars always get stuck in my head!

WORTH CONSUMING!

This isn’t exactly the album I have, mine is actually a best-of of some sorts, but it includes the title song, so I cheated a bit ;) It’s a nice album, it reminds me a lot of my childhood. Anne Sylvestre has a sweet voice and her songs are pretty. My favorite is by far La Rochelle par la mer, I can listen to it on repeat for a long time!

A story about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Third Season (Slim Set)" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I came late in the Buffyverse but I am completely hooked. My boyfriend and I go through whole seasons in two weeks. My current favorite season is the second, so season three had a lot to live up to; I didn’t like it as much, but it was quite good, too!

First of all, a deception: the Big Bad, aka the Mayor, was really really weird. I guess they were trying to get something radically different but the whole “fatherly good guy” really undercut the supposed evilness he had. The only interesting thing about him was his relationship with Faith, and even that I felt was more developped in Season 4. Also, the great big CGI snake at the end? Blah.

But the rest was all good. I loved the relationships mayhem with the Willow/Xander “affair”. It was also great to see all the characters being seniors! One thing I thought was weird was how they brought back Angel but didn’t explain how he came back (thought that might be further explored in future episodes, I don’t know!). This season also revolves a lot around Faith, an interesting character, but I actually like Faith post-season 3 more, like in her brief guest starring in Season 4 and in Angel. Some of my favorites were Lovers Walk (Spike cameo!), Band Candy (Giles badness!) and The Wish is possibly my favorite of the whole serie. I also liked seeing all the students coming together in Graduation Day. Fun times!!!

The DVD set is quite nice, again some pretty interesting bonuses and some very nice commentaries. My only pet peeve would be that many of the featurettes focussed heavily on Bad Girls/Consequences which weren’t my favorite episodes, but that’s a personal thing. The featurette on “Buffy speak” was particularly interesting. Also, I love the commentaries by Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie, they are great!

A story about "S'il Suffisait d'Aimer" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

My father wanted to give a Céline album for my mother on Valentine’s Day (because they don’t own any and he thought it was a shame), so I suggested this one, because the title is rather romantic! And it’s supposed to be one of her bests, after D’eux (which I owned).

I do like it. It’s my cheesy side. I realised I knew the lyrics of all the well-known songs by heart! (S’il suffisait d’aimer, On ne change pas, En attendant ses pas...) At first I only listened to those but eventually the rest kind of grew on me, though some grate my ears (I hate Je chanterai). It’s a good album for people with a large tolerancy for saccharine pop ;)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I gave it to my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day and I personnally think it’s a good gift :) It’s romantic without being too cheesy (though I did give him chocolates, too). I think Jack Johnson’s love for his wife/girlfriend/I-don’t-know is just amazing, especially in the “famous people” world where every relationship lasts two years at most.

It’s a really nice album. It’s sweet and relaxing. It’s great for hanging out in bed with your lover, it’s great for studying, it’s great for making you believe it’s summer when you’re stuck in a snowstorm. Some songs stand out (Do You Remember is actually one of our “couple songs”!) but mostly it’s a great flow of beautiful music. I highly recommend it!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I don’t really feel like writing something about this movie because I disliked it so much. Here goes anyway!

I convinced my father to subscribe to zip.ca because he wanted to watch movies from when he was young(er), and this one was one of them (he actually wants to see most of Tavernier’s movies). He thought it would be more joyful, though, what with the title and all, but it’s actually a pretty dark piece. What I most disliked about it is that every character was bad, there was nobody you rooted for. That makes the movie quite less worth watching. It was also very crude for no good reason, I felt. I did watch it entirely but I spent the last half-hour surfing on the net at the same time…

WORTH CONSUMING!

My boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas; it was on my amazon wishlist because I liked Frou Frou okay and I thought it would be nice to check this out. Plus a friend of mine bought it last summer and loved it. She says it’s great “at-work” music and I agree that it’s good for studying! But that’s something of a disadvantage too because it means that it feels a bit like it’s all the same when you listen to it. I like it all right though but I don’t think it will become one I listen to all the time!

A story about "Interview" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Interesting movie. My cousin has this weird tendancy to rent generally bad movies when he comes to my place to watch one. The last one was awful (Thumbsucker) but this one was okay. I can’t say I enjoyed it a ton and want to watch it everyday, but it is clearly a different type of movie than what I usually watch.

It’s all happening in real time, with no more than two characters (a few supporting people in the first 10 minutes, but that’s it) and the bulk of the movie happens in just one place, the actress’ loft. You follow their conversation, a weird “interview”, and get a pretty clear picture of both their messed-up lives.

It’s obviously an acting tour de force (and a directing one, too). This movie is really not for everyone, but I found I appreciated it.
