Probably Schmitt's best — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

La part de l’autre is a great uchrony (an uchrony is when a single event is changed through the course of history, thus having a great impact on the rest of what we know as real history). In this case, none other than Adolf Hitler is the subject: he is accepted to the Beaux-Arts Academy. The artist Hitler becomes a much, much better person and lives a very different life.

Schmitt books often make us think, since philosophy, religion and art are some of his favorite themes. I believe this one however brings the thinking to another level since it is so complex and well done. The idea that each person contains two sides (an evil and a good one) that can be very well developed depending on that person’s choices is very interesting, and it obviously has a great impact in that book’s case. A great read – I read it all in a day, I just couldn’t put it down!

A story about "13 Going on 30 (Fun & Flirty Edition)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love 13 Going On 30 with all my heart. At first I wasn’t interested by it (thought it looked like just another childish romantic comedy) but was “forced” to see it on a plane, and I loved with very dearly. I must have seen it 20 times since them! It’s like the ultimate bonding movie between my sister and me.

I actually own the other version (“Special Edition”) but, cunning me, I bought this for my boyfriend’s sister at Christmas so I was able to see the other bonus features! The Special Edition has quite a normal size of bonus features, and frankly I think the one it has are enough. The Fun and Flirty ones are the same than on the Special Edition, but with more games, I think. But the F&F package is cute! The DVD case is pink and smells like bubble gum. Incredible, eh?

Keeps getting better! — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

What’s great with the Reine de Mémoire serie is that it keeps getting better with each book. Frankly, I didn’t care so much for the first nor the second, but the third was wonderful and the fourth is too (I think I still prefer the third though!). I was glad to see more of the Mynmaï civilization explored (this time through two characters instead of just one). I am eagerly waiting for the fifth one, and for the other books Vonarburg has in store for this parallel universe.

A review of "Histoires d'orphelins" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is quite good – I’m not very objective because I love Lucy Maud Montgomery very dearly. It’s a good (one could even say necessary) addition to any bookshelf for a LMM fan. Orphan children are a very strong theme through her works. The only problem I have with this collection is that every story is built on the same framework – an orphan discovers a long-lost parent and is taken gleefully home. (Or almost.) Each story is good individually, but reading more than two at a time is bound to get your attention leaking!

A review of "Shakespeare in Love (Miramax Collector's Series)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I watched this movie a few weeks ago and found it very good and quite entertaining … as a romantic comedy with an historical touch. I have no idea as to why this was made Best Picture, especially over Life is Beautiful which may be one of my favorite movies ever. I guess the non-american nature of Life is Beautiful was against it.

Again, this comment is not against Shakespeare in Love, which I liked, especially for all the references to Shakespeare (duh!) and for the godly Colin Firth, even though he’s not so admirable in this! An anecdote about this: it’s probably the only movie with a title that I find better in French: Shakespeare et Juliette (Shakespeare and Juliet) is cuter and more subtle than Shakespeare in Love. That didn’t stop me from watching the movie in English though, even if French is my mother tongue!

And finally, the bonus features on this DVD are lenghtier than I thought (especially considering its very small price). But I would have loved to see the making-of more extended, and did we really need all those TV spots with minimum changes to them? 4 or 5 would have been enough.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "La Vie La Vie" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s actually not a movie, but rather a TV serie, and since I’m not so used to watch TV, it’s taking me an enourmous amount of time to watch it entirely. But a few weeks ago I started working my way through TV series by doing some exercise in front of the TV (like on my stationary bicycle) and I calculated that I should start listening to it once more in about two months.

It’s such a good serie. I love it very dearly.

Even though it's a Harlequin... — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

and I don’t think much of Harlequins, I thought this one was fairly good ;) Well, at least, there’s a(n almost believable) story, which can not be said about most Harlequins!

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Le mercenaire" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

well, first, it’s a jolly old book (it was 1958 when my grandfather wrote it) that hasn’t aged very well. old ideas, old story.. i’m reading it mostly for sentimental value, and historical too. it’s about 220 pages long and i’m halfway through.

another weird thing about this book, that is probably going to show his age: the pages aren’t separated. i need to cut them manually! haha it’s very strange. my father says it reminds him of his schooldays where had to cut the pages of his books all the time :)

A story about "Disney Princesses Zizzlingers" — 3 years ago

A review of "L'orpheline dans un arbre" — 3 years ago

It’s a bit too childish for me, I guess. Five years ago it would have been right on. It was still quite entertaining.
