I fell in love with the movie, and I just knew I had to get the soundtrack. I am something of a Disney-soundtrack collector, though I don’t have much, and I absolutely adore everything Alan Menken thouches (er, possiblement excepting Home on the Range, but let’s not go there). Also, the Menken-Schwartz pair had done Pocahontas which is one of my favorite Disney soundtracks. So well, I bought it without hesitating!

I wasn’t disappointed! All 5 songs have really high play counts on my iTunes. I watched the movie in French, so I wasn’t really sure what lyrics were going to be, but luckily I found I enjoyed So Close much better than its French translation. My favorites are That’s How You Know (of course!) and Ever Ever After, even though it is rather pop-cheesy.

I also really like the instrumental pieces. They represent the movie well and the small nods to other Menken works (the Beauty and the Beast theme is very apparent in one of the tracks) are really beautiful. My favorite is the Enchanted Suite, which brings together all the themes of the movie.

If you liked the movie, this album is really a no-brainer. It’s going to help you wait more patiently for the DVD!
