couldn’t get past the first couple of pages. confusing and boring.
also highly recommend her cover of cold chisel’s flame trees.
it might seem an odd choice but she does it so beautifully.
my dad is a huge sci fi fan. he highly recommended the books but was reluctant to recommend the movie, and i can understand why.
the story has been summarized so much that it makes little to no sense. the dune chronicles couldn’t possibly have been made into a movie, or even a series of movies without editting a lot of the story out. to simplify this great story to ‘reasonable’ movie-length would turn into another piece of meaningless hollywood crap, so instead they tried to keep everything and it all ended up on the cutting room floor. i heard they filmed something like 60 hours of footage, and had to lose 95% of it. it was a tragedy.
if you’ve heard the dune books are good and think the movie will be a suitable substitute, you’re wrong. read the books.
interestingly enough, i’ve heard there’s a remake in the works. hopefully it turns out better than this version.
I tried to read it when i was about 14 (i was an advanced reader, but not this advanced). couldn’t get into the dry language.
maybe i should give it another go.
i love love love this book!
i read it randomly from the school library and it just clicked so well. it’s like it relates to something deep inside me and i can’t get it out of my mind (not that i want to).
tragically i can’t find another copy anywhere. the school has been shut down and i’d love to know what they did with the books in the library (probably distrubuted them to other schools). i cannot find a reference to it anywhere; no library, not on amazon or anywhere online. sometimes i think i imagiend it, but even my most bizarre dreams aren’t this crazy.
i want that tattoo.
i recently re-acquired this after rememberign how much i liked it when i was younger (12 or so). i’m disappopinted with myself because i sold it when i went into my awkward, self-concious phase. but yes, it’s still good, and i’m not ashamed to say so.
supposedly like gus van sant’s elephant but ‘more confronting’.
meh . . . i liked elephant better. i think it had potential, but they could’ve done the end better.
gets a little confusing in the second half when it suddenly switches to following a new character without any explanation, but overall i enjoyed it.
read this for yr 11 or 12 lit, liked it. went on to discover more stoppard goodness.
