A story about "The Christie Caper" — 6 years ago

I like the Annie Darling novels, and this one is particularly appropriate as I just finished an Agatha Christie last night – the first one in quite some time.
This was a loong book. I think it could have been a little shorter and still been just as good, however the end had a twist in it that sucked me right in.

A story about "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love this book! It’s so addictive to read about all the mega-buck cosmetics and skin care products that are over scented, over priced and a waste of time. Made me feel better for being addicted to $7 Cetaphil. This is a must-read for all those women who blow their money hoping that the ‘age-defying’ claims are true.

A story about "The Corrections: A Novel" — 6 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Not my usual kind of thing, but I’m reading it because my dad gave it to me – he thought it was good, and so did Marg from my writers group. So…the only thing wrong with it thus far is that it’s too heavy to drag on the train to work every day!

OK, that’s it. I’ve given up…it’s just too long and has dragged on too long. I am about two thirds of the way through and it just keeps drivelling on with no end in sight. It is not often that I don’t finish something, but I have to consider myself beaten.

A story about "How to Write a Damn Good Novel: A Step-by-Step No Nonsense Guide to Dramatic Storytelling (How to Write a Damn Good Novel)" — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Marg lent me this book last night – she said it would be very helpful. She was right. Though it’s written so snappily that I’m going to have to go back and re-read chunks of it again. It uses examples from well-known books to demonstrate it’s suggestions, which is a great learning device. I’m liking it! actually, I’m going to buy it. It’s kickass.

A story about "Land of the Living" — 6 years ago

The start of this novel had me wondering where the hell it was going – as it’s told from the point of view of a woman who has been snatched and imprisoned. Thankfully the rest of the book did not continue in that vein – it was quite addictive. As thre reader I was continually unsure as to whether Abbie (the protagonist) was sane or delusional. Good aeroplane reading!

A story about "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel" — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Loved it. Looking forward to reading it again in about 5 years when I’ve kind of forgotten chunks of it. I’ve got to get myself to Louisiana!

A story about "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel" — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The past era that this deals with reminded me of ‘The Bottoms’ by Joe R. Lansdale – but it’s a completely different style of book. I’m finding it quite enjoyable and I like how if flicks in between past an present so fluidly.

A story about "Bad Boy Brawly Brown (Easy Rawlins Mysteries (Paperback))" — 6 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Started this book way before Christmas and now it is lost somewhere in my house. I was enjoying it very much – it’s my first taste of Mosley. The Easy Rawlins character is a great sort of anti-hero and I want to find it so I can finish it!

A story about ""G" Is for Grafton: The World of Kinsey Millhone" — 6 years ago

Lisa lent me this ages ago – I’ve started it a couple of times. It’s interesting; in the way that reading someone’s thesis is interesting. I think that if you hadn’t read any Grafton you’d be bored rigid. But why would you read it if you hadn’t read any Grafton?
