A story about "A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail (Official Guides to the Appalachian Trail)" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I am reading this aloud to M, due to our having driven 2000km in the past eight days without a radio in the car. I love it.

A story about "Bridget Jones's Diary" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the first book in ‘diary style’ that I’ve actually enjoyed. Have read it before – it’s very funny. Have also recommend the sequeal ‘Edge of Reason’ which I found even funnier.

A story about "Something Rotten: A Thursday Next Mystery" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I almost inhaled my own face when my friend lent me the latest Thursday Next novel. I have to agree with the person who has the ‘Harry Potter reaction’ to a new Jasper Fforde book – I do too! This one is EXCELLENT. I’ve almost finished it.

A story about "The Mother Tongue" — 4 years ago

I am enjoying this a lot – I am often curious about where certain words come from, and why particular expressions make no literal sense. Not to mention the pangs of horror that I get when I imagine having to learn English – so much of if makes so little logical sense!

A story about "The Visitor (Unabridged)" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have NEVER not been sucked in by a Lee Child ‘Jack Reacher’ book. I know that once I’m about fifty or so pages in, I will have difficulty putting it down.

A story about "DiG!" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I found this to be fairly fascinating, although I don’t think we heard enough of the MUSIC of the Brian Jonestown Massacre. It’s all very well to keep hearing that this Anton guy is a ‘genius’ but there was very little of their music showcased to indicate this – and personality-wise he just comes across as a very annoying, self deluded and self defeating pain in the arse. It was all quite interesting to watch – in a voyeuristic sort of way.

A story about "Being Julia" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked this movie. If you’ve only seen Annette Bening do her ‘American Beauty’ thing, then see this movie, because it shows her amazing versatility. It’s not a hard hitting movie, but it is very charming.

A story about "Room Noises" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I got given this album a week or two ago and have just started listening to it. Initially I thought it was way too ‘clean’ sounding – kind of supremely unobjectionable – but after playing it repeatedly, I have been sucked in. There are some very beautiful tracks that I think stand out over the rest:
Telescope Eyes, Golly Sandra, Brightly Wound, and Trolley Wood have all stayed in my head for days…

A story about "The Falls: An Inspector Rebus Novel" — 6 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is brilliant. Rebus is getting more tortured and the streets of Edinburgh are grim. This was a great read – Ian Rankin deserves accolades (and his music taste isn’t bad either).

A story about "Q Is for Quarry" — 6 years ago

A great Grafton. hadn’t read one for a while, but got sucked in via an audio book that I listened to when I was having my eyes lasered. Quarry is a great read and also pencils in a bit more of Kinsey’s past, which is always interesting.
