A story about "Enduring Love" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It took me f.o.r.e.v.e.r to get into this book. I probably read two other books while still dipping in and out of the first 80 pages. But finally it swept me away and I became drawn in and desperate to know how it was all going to pan out. One of the reasons that I read this was that so many other people had said how good it was, and I was determined to persevere. I’m glad I did.

Why I gave up consuming "Dead Sexy: A Novel" — 2 years ago

It’s just too dreary. I had read a few of her earlier novels and they were funny – this was just too heavy on the one liners and the plot was lame.

A story about "Circle of Influence: A History of the Gas Industry in Victoria." — 2 years ago

An insightful look at the gas industry of Victoria. Great resource for history students.

A story about "Running With Scissors" — 2 years ago

Um. Not as good as the book. Kind of all over the place. Even though the cast is great, and the acting is also excellent, it seemed to me to be trying to squash too much in, and sort of suffered as a result. I don’t know. It would have been very hard to pull this off well… It’s not terrible. Maybe if you haven’t read the book it would seem better….

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This was startlingly, bogglingly bad. The script is not only hackneyed, but contrived, and thus the movie had no chance from the outset. I LIKE Hugh Grant. I LIKE Drew Barrymore. But they were both left to flounder their way through craptastic dialogue. The pacing of the film was sluggish. I was totally disappointed. It really was probably in the top five worst films I have ever seen. The two redeeming features were the video clip for Hugh Grant’s character’s 80’s band singing “POP (Goes My Heart)” and the song that gets written during the film. Please don’t see this, especially if you liked Four Weddings and a Funeral, or Love Actually.

A story about "A Is for Alibi (The Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mystery Series)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I reread this to kick off my holiday (and because it’s a light little paperback to stuff in my bag). I had forgotten how fantastic this first Kinsey Millhone book is! Recommended!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Possibly one of the best books I’ve ever read.

A story about "Six Feet Under - The Complete Fifth Season" — 2 years ago

I finally made it through all the DVDs right to the final episode. And now I feel totally rung out and exhausted – like I’ve just attended a funeral!! I kind of agree a little with Justin, in that many of the characters just began to drive me MAD – particularly Ruth and Nate. The ending really threw me, I’m not sure I needed that – the whole sequence seemed as if it had been tacked on – but I’m going to watch it soon with commentary. I totally recommend having a Six Feet Under DVD-a-Thon.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this on the basis of hearing the track ‘Postcards From Italy’ on RRR-FM. So far it’s still the real standout track for me and I’m finding it hard to love the rest of the album quite as much.

A story about "The media and me" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I only became aware of Stuart Littlemore whilst studying journalism and watching Media Watch on the ABC (Australia). I loved his smugness and his sarcasm, and the show has never really recovered from his absence.

I was unaware of his radio and TDT background – or his writing prowess. This book is tight and doesn’t involve any peripheral personal stuff – and it made the ‘autobiography’ of Ray Barrett that I just finished seem bloated and overlong (apologies to Peter Corris). It really does just stick to the title.

I wish Stuart Littlemore had a ‘MediaWatch style’ blog. Just a thought.
