A story about "Silent Partner (Alex Delaware)" — 4 years ago

Interesting – but I think this needs to be read all at once. I’ve been reading it in dribs and drabs, and all the different characters populating past and present have started to baffle me. It’s good though.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was very very readable. Not as good as ‘The Bottoms’ but fairly riveting. The violence towards the end was so full on that I kept having to put the book down and do something else!

A story about "Shell Game (Kathleen Mallory Novels (Paperback))" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Love the Mallory novels, but always find them hard to wade into at the start. This one is coming together…
A little more airy fairy than the others I have read – this one crosses the boundaries of reality far more often – and not just in the scenes with magic and magicians.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s true. I love Fairstein. And I’m just luckky to know someone who feels the opposite and so passes all of her books on to me. It would be nice, just for once, if Alexandra Cooper didn’t get into a life threatening situation toward the end of the book and have to be rescued, or fight her way out yawn – but other than that…I love them. I read this yesterday, all in one go.

A story about "No Good Deed" — 4 years ago

Loved this book. It’s extremely pacy, but fairly bleak and remorseless. Manda Scott is a fantastic writer, and I’m going to be checking out all her earlier novels. Apparently ‘No Good Deed’ is her first ‘non-series’ novel. Highly reccommended.

A story about "The Sultans of Sentiment" — 4 years ago

This was given to me with HIGHEST reccommendations from Ian – it’s one of his all time favourite recordings. So I duly cranked it loud, and was immediately able to imagine driving very fast with it blaring from the speakers. I’m going to LIKE it.

A story about "Funeral" — 4 years ago

I am loving listening to this loud on my headphones, while doing mindless work on my computer. I trust pretty much anything that Spunk put out in Australia. Tasty.

A story about "The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Bought this secondhand to read again. Love how Bryson writes – he is very witty and doesn’t hold back in his criticisms of tasteless excess and bad architecture. Hooray!

WORTH CONSUMING!

How I LOVE this album. It’s a grower. I have been listening to it every day and ignoring most of my other music. The beats behind the glovebox song…
What a great album to ride your bike to.

A story about "Capsized/the True Story of Four Men Adrift for 119 Days" — 4 years ago

James Nalepka’s version of being adrift on John Glennie’s upturned trimaran for 119 days provides many different angles and interpretations to Glennie’s version of events. Being able to read both books back to back is very enlightening! The one problem I have with this version is Nalepka’s choice to use first person present tense. It’s annoying. Glennie’s book was better narrated.
