A story about "Truth: A Novel" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Peter Temple is one of my favourite authors. He received a lot of attention for The Broken Shore, which, although I liked it, I felt that some of the shock and awe was a bit over enthusiastic. Truth, however, deserves every accolade that will hopefully be heaped upon it. The best book I’ve read in a long time. His dialogue and descriptions have been pared back to the bare minimum, but instead of detracting, this enhances his storytelling. Peter Temple, you can teach me how to bake bread anytime. If I could write a novel as good as this, I’d probably give up at that point, scared that nothing else would measure up.

A story about "Careless in Red (Inspector Lynley)" — 3 years ago

This book really drew me in. But, in my opinion, it is severely compromised by it’s last few chapters. It feels like everything is tidied up far too quickly and far too predictably – it felt to me like the author was just tired of the whole thing. I was so disappointed in it, because I had enjoyed it up until that point. Oh well, maybe EG is still getting her form back after the disaster that was ‘What Came Before He Shot Her’.

How "Seventh Tree" changed my life — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I will always listen to this album and remember the first six months after my baby was born. We played ‘Happiness’ and ‘Caravan Girl’ as we danced her around to get her off to sleep. I think I will always feel a little bit soppy whenever I hear anything from this album. I love it.

A story about "Stargazing: Memoirs of a Young Lighthouse Keeper" — 4 years ago

This is a great book, but I have just not managed to read anything this year. This is what comes of going and getting pregnant…I will get back to it though. Maybe when she sleeps more than two hours in a row.

A story about "DUPLICATE #1" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Yeah, I liked this book. I kept going with it, even though I’ve only read two books this year (this is the second). I used to read a book a week. Then I had a baby. Ha! I did have to kind of speed read a few chunks of this because some of it just blathered on and I zoned out…

A story about "Nancy Wake Biography" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A bit of an airport read – I found the style of writing slightly on the schlocky side, but still very interesting to read about life in France during World War II.

A story about "Strange Affair: A Novel of Suspense (Inspector Banks Mysteries)" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Peter Robinson doesn’t ever let me down. This is a great Banks novel.

A story about "Moon & Melodies" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this on vinyl back when I was about 18. I used to listen to it when I was in the bath, or when I was studying. Haven’t had a turntable for years, but I now have it on my iPod and I think it’s going to be the soundtrack to the waterbirthing of PartyPie…

A story about "Big Love: The Complete First Season" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s good. It’s intriguing. It didn’t take over my whole existence like Six Feet Under but I did enjoy it.
