A really good read, looking forward to more from Thursday Next… kind of wish I’d written that character
A very good read… looking forward to the Well of Lost Plots now…
Not too bad… not particularly good, either. Cory tries a little too hard with the future jargon, and the story makes some jumps that just leave you shaking your head. It’s not hip, edgy, hypertextual story telling, it’s bad storytelling.
A really good read… sparks of brilliance and kept me entertained.
A good read… very Beckett-like… not necessarily for those people who enjoyed the Lew Griffin series, but a good, lyrical sort of read.
A great read, couldn’t wait to get back to it every time I put it down… next up… March 2005
Amending my previous statement, not at all what I expected so far… but it’s okay, I suppose.
This book was painful. I expected a bit more wit from a book effectively nicking its story directly from a fairy tale. And he’s done it more than once. So I figured, ’ There is no way he can simply rip off the tale of Cinderella, the Wicked Witch of the West, and… the next one… it’s, ehm, Mirror, Mirror, so I’m guessing it’s Snow White’s tale. Only behind the secenes! Wow!
C’mon.
The only way I managed to finish this book was by picking up something from a writer with a reputation for being even more painful, Maugham.
And we’re done… Maugham is painful sometimes… never one to hold to the “show, don’t tell” maxim. But, all in all, worth it, in the end.
A great read… one of my favourite Ross Thomas books… and that’s saying a lot.
