Why I recommend "Restavec: From Haitian Slave Child to Middle-Class American" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

simply put, it’s humbling. everyone in the western (consuming, commercialistic) world needs to read this type of book, often.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I know I’m loosing the taste for certain genres, but I don’t think that was the whole reason I dropped it. It just didn’t read like Straub. The beginning did, because as always he loads us up with a whole lotta characters to juggle at once and try to figure out. But then the story just isn’t… good enough. It’s not… preternatural enough. It’s not… enough. Maybe next time.

A story about "In Her Shoes" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

here’s the poem from the movie:

e.e. Cummings – i carry your heart

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

i fear

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

A question I have about "Coca-Cola Blāk" — 2 years ago

Why does it contain both sugar and aspartame?

like it or hate it — 2 years ago

I like it. Most people I’ve talked to hate it. It tastes kinda cool, but I LOVE coffee. I mean LOVE COFFEE! And I like Coke. So it works.

But I won’t buy it. It’s far too expensive for my tastes.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I had high hopes for this one, because it’s one of my favourite children’s stories. But I was disappointed. Not very funny, not all that interesting, not good enough!

WORTH CONSUMING!

a real page-turner. my hubby (not a big fan of any fiction) raves about this book. it’s spooky, horrific, surreal and original. Highly recommended.

Family life at its worst — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Gowdy has hit the head on dysfunctional family life at its worst—and keeps the reader interested and engaged throughout the entire book. Some of the scenes in this book rang almost far too true and I found myself taken aback to my own childhood, viewing scenes that really changed me into the person I am today. Must read more by this author.

boooooooooring and tedious — 2 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Very disappointed with this book from Grisham. While I learned a little about Tort Law, I also could have learned same from an internet site. The story was long, repetitive and boring. Showed the greed of tort lawyers without allowing the reader to really get to know any of the characters. I’m not sure why I even bothered finishing this one. Better hit me with something better next time, Grisham, or I just might stop reading you.
