A story about "Burnt Bread and Chutney: Growing Up Between Cultures-A Memoir of an Indian Jewish Girl" — 6 years ago

This book is quite interesting because, the author born in U.S.A to an american Jewish father and a Bene Isreli Indian mother, is very confused about her identity. Picked this in the library because of the authors identity as a Indian Jewish. But, now as I am reading, i think this could be any child growing up in an alien culture. Esp. the Srilankan Tamil Children, who dont want to accept the Tamil identity. A must read for parents living in the West.

A story about "Life of Pi" — 5 years ago

The first part made me think of other books i have read. books written by Inidans in English. was wondering what was a big deal about all the hype surrounding this books. the only difference was that this was written by a foreigner who had to learn our culture, esp.the south Indian way of life, which most of the outsiders dont get to see or experience normally.

but! then, i reached part two of the story. and boy! was i in for an adventure. :) i have cread a few book excerts in readers digest and some of them talk abt how the authors survuved in the sea.

This part is similar at the same time very different from those books. i dont want to describe things and spoil the fun.

the story of pi’s survival is followed by a short story he recited to couple of japanese men, who refused to believe what he originally said. this insipid watered down version makes the sandwiched section all the more interesting.

this is a book, i wouldnt mind reading again and again.
