A story about "The Godfather, Part III (Widescreen Edition)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this movie actually!! Everyone said it blew, so I didn’t have high hopes, but I wanted to see more about the Corleones, so I had to watch it. The only bad part is Sofia Coppola, but other than that, I enjoyed the story. Al Pacino is awesome as always and I thought Andy Garcia was great, too. Don’t let the naysayers keep you from enjoying more about the Mafia, too – go rent it!

A story about "Venus Beauty Institute" — 2 years ago

A day after watching this, I am depressed about the whole thing. I love French movies usually, and this one even has Audrey Tautou. However. This movie basically tells you that if you’re a 30-something single woman, you have nothing to look forward to except for sleeping around with huge losers, until some complete freak shows up and makes you help him cheat on his fiance.

Even if it were a good story, the guy looks EXACTLY like Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, so you keep expecting him to break into, “Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury…I’m just a caveman…”

A story about "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved this book, and I hated it. I loved it because it is fun to read, engaging, and I could not put it down. I hated it because it gives an almost too-close look inside restaurant kitchens, making me leary of eating at restaurants and of ordering some things I used to really enjoy at restaurants. Ignorance might be bliss in this case…

Why I recommend "Mystery of the Nile (IMAX) (2-Disc WMVHD Edition)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

What a beautifully filmed movie! National Geographic movies are so much fun to watch because the scenery is always amazing. I really enjoyed this look at the Blue Nile because of all the interesting civilizations they encountered and the respect the expedition members had for the history and culture of the regions they travelled. It left me desperately wanting to go visit Ethiopia!

A story about "Globe Trekker: South Africa" — 2 years ago

Eh. While it was not as awful (or as insensitive) as the Globe Trekker Peru film, this was not all that useful. It had some beautiful footage of their safari in Kruger National Park, but didn’t really do a whole lot for Cape Town, which I was really hoping to learn about.

A story about "Interpreter of Maladies: Stories of Bengal, Boston and Beyond" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the best fiction book I’ve read this year, by far. I rarely read fiction, because I’m a nerd. But this was fantastic – Lahiri creates really beautiful short stories which really draw you in. I could not put it down. I would like to read her novel next, I heard it’s also excellent.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is completely awesome. I laughed so much – Carmen Maura’s character as the nun who raises a pet tiger is hilarious. Recommended for any Almodovar fan!

A story about "Entre Nous: A Woman's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I initially bought this for a friend a few years ago, but ended up reading it myself before giving it to her! It is a cute book and is one I tend to reread every year or so. It’s a nice reminder to slow down, respect yourself and enjoy life, especially since I often read material focused on self-help and productivity.

I love the way the author points out how in-a-hurry Americans usually are, in contrast to the French women, who relish the good things in life and take their time enjoying them. It’s also very amusing to see the French women’s reactions to normal things in the U.S.A., like drinking coffee in one’s car or throwing baby showers.

Why I recommend "An Inconvenient Truth" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wow – this movie was excellent. I wish it had been longer because the footage was so powerful and the numbers and facts presented were so intense. I hope everyone goes and sees it, but more than that, I hope they leave the theater resolved to change things in their lives, just like I did.

It’s one thing to like this movie. It’s quite another to be touched by it enough to redefine what you think is okay about the way you live your life, what comfortable means to you, and how responsible you feel for the impact you’re making on the earth.

A review of "Barrys Tea" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Barry’s Gold can be tough to find in the U.S., but it is worth it – it is hands-down the best tea. This tea smells like an Irish kitchen. It is also excellent for all occasions.
