where is the originality? — 6 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I felt as if I was watching a farce film.
Take a little X files add Tarzan, Happy Days ( the hair combing was too Fonzy for anyone’s taste), West Side Story, Jumanji (the monkeys in the jeep), the Goonies (sliding down tunnels), some B horror film (the flesh eating ants) and a dab of the Fast and Furious and you have this film.

Why I recommend "A Sound of Thunder (Widescreen Edition)" — 39 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

For the teachers out there: A great movie to show as a companion to the story ” A Sound of Thunder”, which is in many 10th grade English textbooks. There is a great downloadable activity called The Butterfly Effect on scholastic.com that can accompany both the movie and the story.

For the teacher out there: This DVD has a great dramatization of the short story ” The Screaming Woman” with Drew Barrymore playing the main character.

Why I recommend "The Ray Bradbury Theater, Vol. 2" — 39 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

For the teachers out there: This DVD has the story The Pedestrian in video form. My students really enjoyed it as a companion to our textbook, and a pre-reading guide I downloaded off scholastic.com.

A review of "The Four Day Win: End Your Diet War and Achieve Thinner Peace" — 39 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I checked this book out from the library, and tried many of the suggestions. Although I did not lose one pound during the weeks it took me to finish the book, I did notice many changes in my eating, the way I thought about food, myself and my life. I bought the book.

Menus so simple a caveman could cook them — 46 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I hate to cook. Most diet books I’ve read have such unfamiliar ingredients and cooking procedures that I never try more than one or two menus. This diet has smoothies, and meals that you just need a frying pan, a bake pan and a microwave to make.

Why I recommend "This Year You Write Your Novel" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Having already written my first novel, I read this book as motivation to revise and edit it, and hoped that I would find new information included here. I did. Granted, it is not a week by week guide to outlining, research, fleshing out characters, staying motivated etc. It basically assumes that the writer has skill, motivation and dedication. The things that I got out of this book was encouragement to write every day, and the nitty gritty elegance of the re-writing process.Never had I heard the emphasis to edit, revise, line by line, sentence by sentence, word by word like a poet who is trying to capture the essence of a situation.Never had I been told to make dialogue do double and triple duty- reveal character, advance plot, add to the music or the mood of the scene etc. Many other books seem to try to boil writing down to a recipe, step one, step two, step three. This book truly deals with writing as a craft and an artform.

Why I recommend "Still Breathing" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Interesting concept, males that have inherited the ability to dream their true love before meeting her and then choose to pursue and woo her.
