A story about "No Need for Speed: A Beginner's Guide to the Joy of Running" — 2 years ago

Well, I sort of finished the book. I read just the four chapters with practical advice about gear, injuries, cross-training, and racing. I thought that was the way to go and would recommend it to anyone else thinking of reading the book.

A story about "No Need for Speed: A Beginner's Guide to the Joy of Running" — 2 years ago

I read the first section but haven’t gotten beyond the description of types of gear that I should buy. I have a lot on my plate right now so I don’t think I’ll be able to make progress on the book before it’s due back at the library next week.

So far, I’m kind of wishy-washy on the book. There’s a lot of good detail about what kind of gear I’ll need, and I suspect there’s lots more practical advice in other chapters as well. But the book so far seems kind of hypocritical. The author started out by saying that you don’t need anything to be a runner, other than a desire to run, but then he proceeds to say that you do need to go out and buy all this fancy gear. Not a consistent message.

Maybe I’ll try to pick this book up from the library again in the future, but it doesn’t yet appear to be worth buying.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

For me, there were some enjoyable parts to the movie, but overall I didn’t think it was worth my time. On the other hand, I know some people who would (and did) find this movie hilarious.

The movie took a bit of time to really get into, and there were a number of really gory parts. I found parts where people died more sad than funny.

WORTH CONSUMING!

DH and I finished watching this on DVD today. Overall, I thought it was excellent. There were a few agonizing hours from about 2 pm to 6 or 7 pm that were absolutely ridiculous and very boring; we could tell they were pretty much filler. DH kept asking “Can we please fast forward through this?” and I was very tempted to say yes. But it was an exciting show. I’d seen the third season already, but that didn’t give anything away about the first season.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is a classic novel that every sci-fi buff and philosopher should read. It details the experiences of a young man who was born and grew up on Mars, in isolation from other humans. He has finally come to Earth and sees human culture from the viewpoint of a stranger.

The novel is an insightful examination of human culture along with a fanciful and exciting plot.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Since I am currently watching Season One of 24, I couldn’t help comparing James Bond to Jack Bauer.

James Bond is waaay more badass. That footchase scene near the beginning of the movie was awesome!

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is one of my all-time favorite books. The basic plot of the story is that a comet is discovered, and as time progresses it looks like it’s going to pass increasingly close-by to the Earth. The book has been increasingly enjoyable each time I read it, as I get more familiar with the L.A. area and I can actually visualize these things happening.

I’d almost categorize this book as sci-fi based on the authors, but there’s nothing about this book that assumes advanced technology. It was actually written in the seventies, so it’s supposed to have taken place around 1980 or so. There is some discussion in the novel about the U.S. and Russian space programs, which give some insight into the perception of the space program’s future. It’s interesting to compare that with the way things actually turned out.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love the new iPod Shuffle! It’s even smaller than the original, and has a built-in clip to attach it to your clothing or whatever. I may need to get some smaller earbuds (I have small ears) but I love it! It will be especially good for jogging, since it fastens securely and you don’t have to worry about it jostling around in your pocket. The only downside is that it no longer connects directly through USB; you have to use a special docking port to connect it to the computer. But I’d say it’s well worth it.

It’s $79 and holds about 240 songs.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This was pretty similar to any other kung fu movie, but with lots more special effects. I guess that’s why I didn’t like it so much, and why other people would like it a lot. By the same guy who did Shaolin Soccer, but more bloody.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this movie, even though its main advertising gimmick turned out not to be very important to the movie. Despite that, the movie made me think about some important issues. I think this was good movie for me to see at this point in my life. A meaningful story about the nature of love.

Also, the movie’s title didn’t make any sense to me.
