A review of "Curious George (Widescreen Edition)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is one of the most adorable and hilarious animations I’ve seen in a long time. I didn’t expect much going into this, but Curious George is a wonderful, funny and terribly cute family film.

The scene where George projects himself hundreds of feet tall to the whole city might just be the funniest animation sequence ever.

WORTH CONSUMING!

By far the best X-Men movie yet, leaving a delightful opening for yet another movie.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not the best or funniest movie, but it was a whole lot better than I expected. I guess it’s always good going into movies with very low expectations.

Poorly put together — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I liked the basic premise of this movie, but it was executed horribly! The dialog was painful and the editing was confusing. Scenes jumped from one to the next with no explanation of how we got there. Little was ever explained.

The fight scenes were laughable. There was little fighting going on. Except for the very last fight, Violet just showed up and slaughtered people.

Kind of a waste of time.

A review of "Hidalgo (Widescreen Edition)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Really good movie set in the late 1800s about a part-Native American cowboy named Frank Hopkins who struggled with his heritage. The movie was really more about his horse Hidalgo, though, who was a wild mustang, untamed by Frank, but was still the fastest horse around. Frank and Hidalgo entered many long distance race competitions and Hidalgo always won. Some Arabs heard of this and claims being made that Hidalgo was the world’s fastest horse and they were irritated about it because they thought only a purebred Arabian horse could possibly be the fastest. They invited Frank and Hidalgo to enter into a 3000 mile race across the Arabian desert if they were going to continue claiming Hidalgo was the fastest. Frank took him up on the offer and the rest of the movie is about that.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Clever, literary and with a good solid message. We see it happening more and more every day: Our freedoms being stripped one by one in the name of fear and terror. I’m not afraid of a terrorist nearly as much as I am of losing my rights.

A review of "Dirty Love (Unrated Edition)" — 3 years ago

It wasn’t the worst movie in the world, but it wasn’t by any means good. Jenny McCarthy wrote and starred in this movie. She isn’t the best actress and most of the time she was just way too dramatic. Her mirror scene was hilarious though and by the end of the movie, her acting seemed to improve. Eddie Kaye Thomas of American Pie fame was a huge component in keeping this movie from sucking too much.

I wouldn’t recommend paying to see this movie by any means, but if you happen to catch it on Showtime this month and are in an incredibly silly mood, you might as well watch it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I found it to be an excellent science fiction movie, with one major plot hole ruining the “science” that could have been easily avoided. Unfortunately, I cannot say what the plot hole was without spoiling the twist.

Very cool special effects, costumes and sets. Weak character development.

A historical, scientific thriller — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A mysterious mass murder in a cathedral in Cologne, Germany starts this book and sets a quick place. At a midnight mass, all partakers of communion were fried from the inside. Everyone else was shot. A covert sect of the U.S. government called Sigma is called together with representatives of the Vatican to piece together a puzzle that will ultimately lead them to find the Magi described in the Bible – the “Three Wise Men”.

This book is a story of their bones and an ancient secret of truth left behind in puzzles and clues so only the deserving will discover the answers. This knowledge is powerful and with it terrifying weapons could be built to control the world or bring about Armageddon. The party responsible for the mass murder in Cologne, The Dragon Court, has learned just enough to build a test weapon. Both they and the Sigma/Vatican team are racing one another to solve the mystery first.

Historical record and scientific fact are merged together in a fictional thriller. This combination happens to be my very favorite type of novel, so I enjoyed the read immensely. Some parts dragged a little and some were repetitive, since The Dragon Court and the Sigma team were always neck and neck. There were a few cool surprises and a few moles I never suspected. I can’t wait to read some of Rollins’ other novels.

Seemed to be cut short — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Overall, I felt like this movie was too short. In the 1950s, a Jewish student (Brendan Fraser) is invited to a posh prep school in Boston for his abilities in football during his senior year. He grows close to his peers, only to realize that they have tremendous pressures placed on them by their families. Some of these young boys reach their breaking point. Some commit suicide or try – because they fear they won’t be the 5th generation in their family to attend Princeton or Harvard.

Meanwhile, Fraser hides his religion, knowing they would hate him simply for being a Jew. When they learn the truth, everyone turns on him.

And that’s pretty much the end of the movie. The meat of the movie builds on offhand comments made by his peers about Jews. The conflict comes too close to the end and there is little resolution to it. Fraser just reiterates the fact that this prep school used him for football (while he’s forced to suffer and be treated differently because he’s a Jew) so he’s going to use them to get to Harvard. There were no new ideas there, as this fact was established within the first 15 minutes of the movie.

I was scratching my head toward the end because I felt like there should be something more to it all.
