Why I gave up consuming "Iliad"

Iliad

by Homer; Translation Robert Fagles; Introduction And Notes Bernard Knox

Oh my gosh, so hard to get through all the descriptions of tbattle, especially since I was working full time with a one hour commute each way (and no bus, I can’t read if there’s no taking the bus) so I gave up and turned it back in to the library, I’ll have to try again later.

Not as Strong (rated 3 stars)

Specials (Uglies Trilogy)

by Scott Westerfeld

In my opinion, the first book was the strongest of the trilogy. It dealt a lot with the issues of what we’re doing to the world today, and played around with what the future of our world could be and examining the society that results from our society’s crash and burn. Reactions against racism, how people are controlled to keep them from becoming greeding and trashing the environment even worse than we have, and plays with some pretty powerful “what if”s.

Third book, however, doesn’t quite drop the ball, but it’s not as strong as the first two, very little is added to the characters and it’s more flash with less substance. I liked following the story to it’s end, and he ties up the end of the book well with more strength coming out of Tally at the end. But the book seems to be a cascade of accidents piling up on each other and disasters beyond the character’s control.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "The Iliad (Dover Thrift Editions)"

The Iliad (Dover Thrift Editions)

by Homer

Slow going because of work and stuff. And the Fagles translation just came in to the other library I go to, so I now have that waiting for me on hold, so I’m waiting to finish this one and mahybe changing translations midway through, and today I’m reading Specials instead. :D

August 25, I’m switching to the Fagles translation instead. *

A story about "Specials (Uglies Trilogy)"

Specials (Uglies Trilogy)

by Scott Westerfeld

Well, I’m waiting for it to come into the library, when I went they didn’t have it in stock. So I gave them my card and said I want this book.

I’ve read (and bought) the first two in the trilogy, and I imagine I could get my hands on a copy at the bookstore. But – as contrasted with the name of this site – I’m on an anticonsumerism kick right now and I want to avoid buying stuff.
