i just finished “kitchen confidential” by anthony bourdain. he talked alot about howard mitcham’s book, but used copies don’t seem to be available for under $100, and it is out of print. luckily my husband got me a copy from i.l.l. (thank you unc charlotte) so i can at least read it. it’s making me want to experiment w/ linguica and bouillabaisse. i’m not clear why if bourdain’s book pushed the demand for this book up so much, that it hasn’t been reissued, but maybe not that many were published to begin w/. someone please reissue this book so i can own it.

I'm Not the New Me

i really loved this book. wendy mcclure is very funny, and does a great job of putting her struggles w/ her weight in perspective, but not in an angsty way, or in a fake struggle/bridget jones way. her blog is also very funny. i love her idea of using small children as tools of political protest.

i was inspired to make this by “comfort me with apples.” it turned out pretty well, and is probably one of the 1st productive things i have done w/ the mortar and pestle we received as a wedding gift. however, my husband refused to taste it, and since neither small boy wants garlic mayonaise, i am probably going to have a lot left.
