even so, I'd recommend it. — 43 weeks ago

This book is the CLASSIC in terms of breathing & pranayama exercises. It’s a chore to read, though & often contradicts itself in terms of the wild claims it makes around effects & contraindications for various practices.

EVEN WITH all of that, this book will remain on my shelf as an oft-consulted reference (speaks really highly to the contents that I can overlook some of the other major challenges)—I can’t wait until someone writes a modern & well-respected book on Pranayama!!

Why I recommend "Living Your Yoga: Finding the Spiritual in Everyday Life" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

well,

I was prepared to be underwhelmed. Yet another yoga book telling me how to achieve the stilling of my mind fluctuations. (YAWN)

I was captivated. I came home in the afternoon, eager to be able to pick up the book & see where Judith would take me next…

Delicious – i looked forward to every anecdote, quote & next line. I took notes pointing me toward my own spiritual development.

This book very pleasantly surprised me.

A story about "We Make the Road by Walking: Conversations on Education and Social Change" — 1 year ago

A friend who usually reads books that end up on my ‘5 star’ list highly recommended this. I’ve read the first two chapters, & am bored out of my mind. It is on the strength of her recommendation that I am persevering!

A story about "Cheesemaking Made Easy : 60 Delicious Varieties" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I made buttermilk cheese last night.
I was astonished at how easy it was to make. This cheese MELTS like nobody’s business & is tastey too… Huzzah!

I’m ready to make some hard cheese even though I’ve been told that making hard cheese is “hard”—This will be a long-time reference book for me!

A story about "No Time to Lose: A Timely Guide to the Way of the Bodhisattva" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read the first half from the library, but was savoring it & reading it slow, & had to go out & buy my own copy.

I loved this so much that I got to the end & started around at the beginning again.

Real, practical advice on how to wake up NOW.

A story about "All About Love: New Visions" — 2 years ago

I want to love this book more than I do.
It reads for me, not like the mind-candy I expected, but rather, like an encyclopedia.

I wanted to be “in love” w/ bell (my first reading of her books) by page 2. Instead, I’m on p78 wishing for Arundhati Roy or Rumi or someone who will help me LOVE being alive…

NOT ROSIE!! — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

So here I am, a pretty concientious consumer of food.
This book is rocking my world.

Damn, if I’m gonna live within my values, I’m gonna have to go through a life-style change.

I think that our world is SO out of balance, that w/ what I’ve read here, I’m not sure I’m ABLE to keep eating as I have been.

I thought Rosie Organic chickens were the responsible way for a meat eating girl to go… Info in this book will make you rethink having another serving of corn… damn, I’ve got to go get to know the farmer, & eat really local.

I think I’m gonna need community support to make this kind of change…
