A story about "Graceful" — 2 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s only 32 page, but I kept highlighting.

A story about "Alcatraz: A Definitive History of the Penitentiary Years" — 2 weeks ago

Iliked reading about the history of the island and of early California. little mention of the native peoples of the area. As if history started with Europeans. Still what I did get was well done. I just wanted another pre-chapter.

I tuned out (& my library time expired through the escape attempts – not where my interest lies)

A story about "Chasing China: A Daughter's Quest for Truth" — 4 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a good light read. I was a bit disappointed by how neatly the threads were tied up. It skipped along amicably and then suddenly too a bit of gangster turn, and then tied everything up in the end. I’d pick it up if I had to do it all over again, though I don’t know that I’d go out of my way.

A story about "Kitchen Confidential Updated Edition: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (P.S.)" — 12 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A quick read, entertaining, & light enough to read even with the tse-tse fly attention span of one travelling through the airport.

I enjoyed, worth picking up if it’s in reach, not something I’d go out of my way to find.

A story about "Middlesex: A Novel (Oprah's Book Club)" — 12 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I very much enjoyed this one. I loved the way past generations informed the lives of the present. I loved the bits of Detroit history which were spot-on.. I found this very compelling, found myself living with the characters in my mind, so I couldn’t wait to get back to reading when my life kept me away…

Worth picking up & reading!

Why I recommend "Miracle Fair: Selected Poems of Wislawa Szymborska" — 20 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Szymborska glides with grace & poise and humor from light-hearted humor to the extremes of man’s inhumanity to man and back to the light hearted romance. The net effect is that she embraces and folds in the entirety of human experience – all of it (yes, /that/ too!) leaving the reader with nothing left out or annexed — no need to ‘select by rejecting’.

pick it up, read it like a novel. it will make you laugh, & make your heart ache.
