Basically I like it better when they try to be German rather than when they try to be American.
This beats Woodstock (for me) b/c 1) there’s almost no folk music and 2) the SF mod/hippie of ‘67 is so much more attractive than the NJ grungey hippie of ‘69.
This is short but highly esoteric, understandably. I am biased against it from the start, although secretly hoping he is right.
However I was looking in the footnotes and he refers to Isaiah 11:1-3, and some translation (probably his own!) which refers to “the fragrance of the vision” of God, and says this “presumably refers to a strong smelling psychoactive substance that was absorbed through inhalation, as for example, cannabis.”
Now while cannabis was probably known to the Jews back then, smoking anything was not. Smoking was pretty much exclusive to the American peoples. This seems a glaring error here. I guess it could refer to the practice of incence, which some people have claimed often contained cannabis.
I have been consuming quite a bit of “old time” counterculture stuff, as one could probably figure out. The early 70s/late 60s seem like an incredible time to be alive, although I don’t mind having hindsight. But so much of it is unimaginable, as this movie proved to me.
This is more of a springboard than a can’t-do-without guidebook, but it gave me a bunch of great ideas.
I got one last week then tried a different brand over the weekend. It was more expensive but the ginger wasn’t present enough for me. So I went back to the other shop and bought 5 bars.
Meh, written in 1909 by a psychologist turned philosopher, it seems a bit soft for my taste so far.
best norwegian lo-fi postrock band ever!
