Not one of my favorite Powers books by a long shot.
I'm currently reading 1 book, listening to 0 albums, watching 0 movies, eating and drinking 0 food items, and consuming 0 other things.
The ex-Christians and girls will love it. The boys might actually be frightened.
Apparently SNL did a parody sketch of this called “Phoning it in.”
I actually saw this when it came out, but in my quest to rewatch everything Chris Nolan’s done, I got the DVD for the commentaries and such. This movie was, at the time, a letdown after Memento, but on its own – or put up against every other movie he’s done so far – it’s really a masterpiece. Also it’s Robin Williams’ first serious-creepy role.
Just finished watching this. I was shocked it was PG13. Liam Neeson must kill like 30 people who are in the way of his rescuing his daughter out of white slavery. Very intense, well-paced, enjoyable.
A young arrogant man goes to law school for no good reason and manages to endure nearly a decade in Philadelphia’s dead-end law market with the aid of prodigious amounts of booze, screwing, and drugs. Mostly just a fun high-paced read, but I think most people can relate to the pain of hating what you do for a living.
Kind of a terrible movie, but not so terrible as to be unwatchable. One of those movies like Crank.
This was the best thing to get the taste of Twilight out of my eyes. An actual strong female protagonist crossing wits with an equally strong male protagonist, set in Ancient Egypt. Very good story.
The overacting with the kid made me want to strangle him, but his Pulp Fiction turnaround made me like him. Also, this was the BEST use of the Magical Negro EVER. Especially because it was not Morgan Freeman.
Saloman is a criminal type, the very best counterfeiter in Europe. When he’s arrested in the early days of the Nazi Regime, he’s put in a camp, since he’s Jewish. But he and a few others of his ilk are put together in practically a resort camp, blocked off from other prisoners, fed well and given lots of entertainment – if they make fake pound notes and dollars for the Third Reich. The interplay between the men and their consciences is wonderful and heartfelt.
