A story about "Slight of Mouth: The Magic of Conversational Belief Change" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve done a lot of training and consulting, and this book offers a great perspective on the conversations I’ve had every day. Dilts sets a clear framework for how beliefs can be built and reinforced through conversation.

A story about "The 80/20 Principle: The Secret to Success by Achieving More with Less" — 4 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Perhaps I have to read on to find the secret of it all, but I am having a hard time identifying a repeatable way to be thinking “80/20”. The book needs more examples of looking for such data. There’s got to be a better resource out there for spotting relevant axes in order to apply this to any value.

A story about "Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Rock out. The cool thing about this book is that most of it was written based on projects I worked on. If I need to clue somebody in to patterns I use, I can just tell him to read this book.

A story about "Factotum" — 5 years ago

I can’t figure out what I love about Chinaski. As much as he irritates just about every person he meets, he does exactly what I wish I could do his situation.

A story about "The Modern Library Writer's Workshop: A Guide to the Craft of Fiction (Modern Library Paperbacks)" — 5 years ago

I’ve been interested in writing better fictional content, and for an engineer like me, this book is a great start. Mr. Cook communicates the fundamentals and nuances of fiction writing with a great breadth of examples, all the while not sounding like a pompous ass.

A story about "NLP at Work: The Difference That Makes a Difference in Business" — 5 years ago

This is a good introduction to applying NLP in a business setting. Sue Knight describes in simple terms how to frame interactions, but could have done with more detail on the linguistic aspect of NLP.

A story about "Michael Chabon Presents. . .The Amazing Adventures of the Escapist, Volume 1" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I loved the Escapist from The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and I had no idea it was based on an actual comic.
