I loved the mysterious, almost dreamy, mood; I loved the outstanding Irène Jacob’s performance; I loved the warm and beautiful photography; and I loved, loved, loved the music!

Enjoyable French thriller that’s like a cross between the Coen Brothers and Hitchcock!!

OK, I admit, not to everyone’s tastes. However, I really, really liked it.

Some others have said that’s it’s hokey, unbelievable and unimaginative…

...but I think it’s a subversive study of identity and relationships hung on pulpy B-Movie conventions. As such, I think it’s a sly, deceptive movie.

Also, this is not a film about plot, but character.

At least, that’s what I think! :)

This film really got under my skin… the suspense just cranks up and up.

Fascinating both as a political allegory as well as a domestic drama.

And the acting is superb.

Imaginative, addictive, charming!

Sad, happy, funny!

Maybe a little gimmicky in places, but still a gripping and touching read.

Oskar Schell – the 9 year old hero of the book – I think is one of the best realised and charming characters I’ve come across in a very long time!

Recommended. (Also, even more so, the author’s debut, Everything is Illuminated.)

I can never watch this movie again… but I’m glad I’ve seen it.

I was disturbed for months afterwards: I think it’s the most powerful movie I’ve ever seen/experienced.

Raw, visceral, absorbing… one of my fave movies of the 90s!

I laughed my ass off on the tram to work (getting many strange looks from fellow passengers) and struggled to cope with the devasting climax! What a wonderful book! (Amazing to think it’s the author’s first.)
