Charade

An aging yet still debonair Cary Grant. A young, gullible and beautiful Audrey Hepburn. George Kennedy and James Coburn in over-the-top caricature roles. After I started watching, I realized I had seen this film before. It’s a trifle, yet charming and fun.

The Battle of Algiers - Criterion Collection

I would have never given this title a look if it weren’t on the “best of” lists. Torture? Terrorism? Urban warfare? Nope. Nope. Nope. Wouldn’t have watched it.

So, I’m glad that I watched it anyway. Based on real events, the film offers a vivid look at propaganda, bombing public places, and torture. In the battle, one side is trying to be heard and the other side is trying to restore peace. Not a feel-good movie but important to watch.

This black and white movie reminds us that conflict-~~which side is right and which side is wrong~~-isn’t black and white.
