worth seeing to deconstruct, anyway — 1 year ago
It’s difficult to be terribly moved by industrial minimalism, especially in the context of living in NYC, which has become a massive construction zone. I can walk on rusting sheets of steel covering holes in sidewalks on the street; to be presented with this in a museum, as if it were a precious and precocious artifact is somewhat absurd. I tried to find intrigue in Serra’s work, but found myself not believing the hype. My kind of minimalism is more the Yves Klein Blue sort, if at all.
