Gideon, Mrs. Jones, Lola, & the man with the broken nose.
Reading this for my Caribbean Lit. class
Loved the mix of history, religion, and cryptology.
First book I read by Foster. Great book. Nuff said.
I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read books by EJD before but it was too long ago to remember his style of writing. I couldn’t help but think how accurate he had the woman’s point of view in this book. Made me think how much of what we do is transparent to those secretly watching us.
Sometimes the names authors choose for characters annoy me. Everything was just right in this one. Their names, their experiences, the struggles/conflicts, the lessons were all on point. I didn’t want to put it down.
And let’s not get into the fact that Nia was Trinidadian! I related on so many levels!
I’m off to look up Anaïs Nin. =D
Not what I expected. Read this book based on its cover. However, it turned out to be very interesting. The story was probably set in the 1600s when slavery was very prominent. I enjoyed the history but found the style of English a bit annoying. Again, I expected a more modern story that didn’t involve old English terms like “cuney” or “shift.” I was also a bit turned off by the homosexual relationship that the author created but it was necessary for the story to develop.
Taught me lessons of perseverance and hope. I had a challenging situation to deal with around the time I saw this movie. On many levels, Frodo’s journey reminded me of my own. He was so young, but had to take on such an enormous task. And even though at some points things seemed hopeless for him, he persevered. This was a great movie with great lessons.
An incredible movie. Some of it hit home. But it mostly reminded me of God’s power. Having experienced what I did this past year or two, I have gained an incredible amount of faith, hope, and strength. The movie reminded me of how bad things got for me in my life, in comparison to how things are now. I thank God for everything because he has moved my life from a state of tragedy to one of miracles and happiness.
What I’ve learned is to have faith. We all say that but, we really need to HAVE FAITH. It’s one thing to say you believe, but if everything you love, everything you know, everything is taken away, can you still lean on God without being angry with him or falling into deep depression, or worse, committing suicide?
We need to prepare ourselves for the worst. The trials are going to come. That’s inevitable. It’s how we handle them, that determines who we become and where we go in life. I found guidance and comfort in reading and learning about God. I thank God for preparing me for the battle before I went to war. There’s nothing worse than an unprepared soldier.
