Calexico just keeps getting better. They had me at “Feast of Wire,” and “Garden Ruin” blew me away. And now, with “Carried to Dust,” they officially own a prime piece of my heart. Past albums have been fun and catchy, this release is more subtle and moving, (it has a more ambient feel,) but they still make me tap my toes and want to tango.

Probably one of the most frustratingly subtle S&M flicks ever made. Scarlett Johansson didn’t act so much as mug like a deer in the headlights with porn lips. Images of Jon Lovitz doing his SNL “Tales of RrrIBALDRY!!” commentary kept popping into my head throughout. Worth seeing for that.

the story was full of all those tired, “poetically tragic,” beautiful losers-type characters that the writer just begs you to love, and a storyline that, if I hadn’t been so captivated by the prettiness of the movie, would have made me roll my eyes and take it right out of my DVD player. This was very contrived.
