Why I recommend "Hostage" — 19 weeks ago
Pretty good action, and Bruce Willis almost plays a character other than Bruce Willis. Hollywood expedites the ending, but they usually do.

This is a nice little movie that delves into some of the spiritual aspects of cycling, which resonated with me.
This was a fun read for me, a cycling murder mystery set in a cycling context. I am now planning on reading the other 4 books that Greg Moody has written.
This movie is about the life of Graeme Obree, who broke the world hour record for cycling in 1994. The story focuses on his struggles against clinical depression, as well as those in the cycling establishment that did not want him to succeed.
I really enjoyed the film, there being enough cycling-specific action to be really inspirational, and enough drama to tell the story. Jonny Lee Miller was great as Obree, and Brian Cox turns in a superb performance as friend and mentor Douglas Baxter.
We watched the Showtime series “Dexter”, which was based on this book. Once finished, I will dive into the sequel.
The author is dealing with the death of one of his adult children. He puts his energy into riding his bicycle across the United States as a means of taking a “time out” to evaluate life, death, and to leave a legacy of lessons and remembrances for his dead son’s daughter. He’s no Steinbeck, but the writings are heartfelt, and touching.
I think my all time favorite was “Skin Deep”, just for the outrageousness of the characters. This book is a bit tame by those standards, but builds (very slowly, mind you) to a pretty good finish. Some very funny parts, but not as many as in his earlier works.
Another in the Harry Bosch series of novels. The focus of this book is on Harry and his struggles with his past. There are a couple of characters that overlap with his last book, “The Lincoln Lawyer”.
I actually own this book, and I skimmed through it a couple of years ago as I was contemplating my first century ride. On Jim’s recommendation I have picked it up again, and I am finding new information in the re-reading.
I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend. The goal was to obtain the indoor cycling workout methodology for my winter training regime. I know that, for my friend, these workouts have paid great dividends in his speed and climbing abilities.
