WORTH CONSUMING!

Anthony Hopkins is an aircraft engineer accused of murdering his wife and Ryan Gosling a hotshot young and successful lawyer.

Hopkins plays the part of the murderous (or is he?) aircraft engineer in sub-H.Lecter style. He also seems to extend his acting range toward the last thrid of the film by suddently giving his character an Irish accent.

Gosling as the public prosecutor with a 97% convistion rate is laid back and cocky and on a promise of a job in a big law firm and shiney blond girlfriend, if he closes this seemingly open and closed case quickly.

Of course Lecter – sorry Hopkins gets the better of Gosling early on and it’s a climb up the twisty ladder of confusion in an attempt to turn the tables.

This is an effective if slightly slow paced thriller that could have packed a bigger punch at the end.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Stupid plot…
Cowardly husband who becomes an intelligent/indestructible/strategist rage virus infected victim/organiser/leader(??)
Wife/victim (of husbands cowardice/virus)/survivor found after all rage infected victims have died from starvation (see 28 days later) – who still looks very fit and full of beans.
A soldier sniper who decides he does not like shooting people and who dies at the hands of cold hearted US troopers after trying to save the special children.
The only Dr in the UK who dies at the hands of enraged husband.
An ethnic stlye cleanse of the UK population.
A son (the antichrist??) victim of father/virus carrier.
A daughter who takes revenge on the cowardly father on behalf of her mother.
A european infestation/infection and so on through the world(?)

So, was it all an American plot to sacrifice Britain in order to rid France of French people? Or was it a family drama about a father letting his family down? Or was it a revenge story? Or was it all or none of these things?

This film is more like a (gory) cheap Sunday afternoon TV movie that even Channel 5 would have a problem scheduling.

Do yourself a favour and do something more challenging than watching this rubbish such as writing a decent film script.

OK, rant over.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This film starts out reasonably mainly because Nicholas Cage is not in it. Strangely I was dreading his appearance and was not disappointed. He is absolutely dreadful. The minute he walks on the set the film nosedives and becomes unwatchable. The other irritation is the appearance of the ghouls or daemons.

The effects are to say the least…poor and the plotting is so bad it’s a joke. I got to the part where the son of the Devil (what the hell is Peter Fonda doing in this film?! – Oh I know it’s supposed to be ironic he was in Easy Rider…) kills all the “Hells Angels”. After that it just went downhill and I turned it off. Phew. Please Nick…RETIRE!!!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I started to watch this movie last night. The first thing I noticed was in the scenes with non-English speakers there were sub-titles. Babel? I thought the point was to highlight communication problems? Anyway, after about 20 minutes I realised I cared not a hoot about any of the characters. Brat Twit sorry Pitt was all beardy serious but that did not work for me.
I must admit I gave up with it after another couple of minutes.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The director clearly loves his wife. The film is almost an homage to Rachel Weisz which is not a bad thing. I’m not sure the plotting works but it certainly keeps you thinking all the way through.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The Black Dahlia views like 250 completely seperate but similar looking scenes that have been cut into pieces and then randomly joined back together again by someone who did not know how to use editing equipment. The net result is a boring, disjointed and awful movie.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This film is bloated, dull and full of characters who one does not care about. Di Caprio sleep walks through the film and Damon is just…Matt Damon (as usual). Jack Nicholson needs to retire ‘nuff said. Martin Sheen, does he really need the money? And as for Martin Scorsese well he’s not made (and never will now) a good film since Raging Bull. The cliches come thick and fast the Irish stereotypes are abominable and where were all the black people in Boston? I saw two (minor roles). This film proves how out of step the Academy Awards have really become. Vera Farmiga, why the long face? Now Inland Empire…
