A story about "crab rangoon" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t normally eat crab. I don’t eat a lot of fried food, either. It can’t possibly be good for me. Those things being said, I will eat it anyway.

I was told at some point that crab rangoon is not actually an eastern dish. That is, you can’t wander into a restaurant in China and find it on a menu (assuming you could read the menu, which I couldn’t). I’d love corroboration on this opinion, but it makes sense to me. There aren’t too many Chinese foods with cream cheese incorporated into them.

Yes, I know it’s freezing out. Back off. It’s good stuff.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Apple cider, hot, with caramel and a cinnamon stick. Holy yummy! I can’t stop myself!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t think I’d like warm wine, but it was awfully tasty!

A story about "Talking Book" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

“Superstitious” is my karaoke song! Just imagine your favorite JoBiv gittin’ on DOWN, aight?

Oh Lord, I don’t really talk like that. But I love how that song, along with most on the album, is full of contradiction; the beats make you dance, and the message is a warning.

A story about "The Josephine Bonaparte Collection: The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B., Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe, and The Last Great Dance on Earth" — 4 years ago

My momma sent these home with me in October – we share a love for this historical time period, mostly with a Jane Austen base, and I always end up reading her cheapo Regency England novels around the holidays. These books are a huge step up – impeccably researched, wonderfully paced, carefully phrased. I’m enjoying myself.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Meh. Tons of kids, hijinks ensue… A whole row of kids fell asleep in the theatre for lack of entertainment.

A story about "Cuisine Non-Stop" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Dr. Blouin sent this my way, and I can’t help lovin’ it. Here’s a description from Collective, a BBC web magazine:

Cuisine Non-Stop is a decidedly Francais affair. Again compiled by Byrne, it’s an interesting blend of the traditional French chanson (think Piaf, Gainsbourg) and nouveau-gallic influences from North Africa, gypsy music, hip hop and Gotan Project style latin grooves. It’s certainly an eccentric combination but a charming one nonetheless.

Why I recommend "Word of Mouth Aug 05" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Word Magazine is expensive ($9 or more in the US) because it’s an import AND because it comes with a CD. For me, it’s completely worth it. The sampler CD has led to many a great addition to my CD collection.

A review of "Hopes and Fears" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The album is completely sappy, but I luurve sappy sometimes. The vocals… I mean, this guy has some pipes, and the melodies are ACTUALLY MELODIC! How often does that happen anymore?
