Why I want to consume "Everyday Scripting with Ruby: For Teams, Testers, and You" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I got this in the mail two days ago. After taking a break of about a year, I want to get back into programming (in gererally) and using Ruby (specifically). I was looking for a book that would not be focused on the fundamentals and concepts of programming (this is an object, etc). I also wanted a book that delivered useful, practical examples of Ruby code, comments on best practices, used regexps and test driven development. If it wasn’t too much, I also wanted a book that would be enjoyable to read (for me). I’m currently on chapter 9 and thus far it has delivered on all fronts. Excellent book, Thanks Brian!

Meh — 2 years ago

This is not a bad book, but Clive has done so much with his past works that it’s seemed worse than it was. This book has no beginning and no end. It’s beginning is The Great and Secret Show and its ending really wasn’t there. Is there a 3rd book of the Art?

Good Book — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a good book, but I didn’t feel that it lived up to the hype.

Good, but lacking a complete plot — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Just finished this and despite the poor reviews, I enjoyed it. While I enjoyed the character development and secrets unearthed the book lacked an overarching plot. No driving force, no conclusion. If you are into the series, it is a must. If you haven’t read the previous books, or didn’t like them then pass this one by.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The only thing that I found interesting about this book was that it was written in 1972 and therefore has influenced many better books to follow.

A unique puzzle — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It seems that everyone has a different interpretation of this book’s meaning. It’s that kind of book, presenting riddles that are mirrored, so that you see in them something personal. Perhaps not riddles, but complete darkness, burning away all but introspection. I don’t know, in any case I think the answers must come from within.
Some people, my wife included, felt that this was one of the scariest books that she ever read. Now that I have read it, I would say that it was not horror at all. It is a book about coping, abuse, loss, grief, madness, death and nothing.

Awesome — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have enjoyed the first two books, preferring the first to the second. But where the first book strayed, this one was strong. So much happens to the land of Westros in this book that it is a completely different place at the end. Magic is awakening and the land is ravaged by civil war. If you cared a bit for the first two, you will love this one.

Great series — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not quite as good as the first, but there was a lot of setup in there. Hoping for more. I finished this one yesterday and am already over 100 pages into book 3.

Interesting reading — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Even when taken from a point of view that is not strictly Christian this book leads to interesting insights of the human persona. You will find yourself saying, “I’ve done that!” or “That’s happened to me”.

Not bad — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a clever and even good book, but it took me a few years to read because after I started it I kept putting it down for other books. It wasn’t boring, it just wasn’t as interesting as other books I’ve read. Still I’m glad I finished it. I’m not decided if I’ll read the next in the series.
