The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien — 2 years ago

I am not sure that a review is even necessary for the caliber of books that the The Lord of the Rings trilogy makes up. It is an incredible masterpiece and definitely one of my favorite collections.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens — 2 years ago

This is easily my second favorite classic novel. Saturated with adventure, love, passion, and redemption, Dickens expertly and eloquently details the lives of many characters all woven together by the golden threads of love during the tumultuous and dangerous French Revolution. A must read!

The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough — 2 years ago

Following three generations of the Cleary family, this is an incredibly epic and beautiful story of love and tragedy. Admittedly I couldn’t stand to even complete (or hardly start) the made for t.v. miniseries but the book is nonetheless a timeless and fantastically written novel. It comes highly recommended!

A story about "The Scarlet Letter" — 2 years ago

I think I should read this again. I don’t normally care for many works set in this period of time but people keep telling me what a great book it is. I had to have missed something…

Night Shall Overtake Us by Kate Saunders — 2 years ago

This falls easily into second place (second only to A Man Cannot Cry by Gloria Keverne) on my list of top twentieth-century novels. Documenting the lives of four girls who while attending boarding school together make an oath of eternal friendship, the story unfolds each of the characters lives as they grow and are changed by the ravages of every day life amidst WWI. Incredibly saturated by love, passion, tragedy, and war, this book is a must read!

A Man Cannot Cry by Gloria Keverne — 2 years ago

This is hands-down my favorite book of all-time. It is an incredible story of epic proportions. Set in Africa, it took Gloria over 20 years to research and write this amazing tale of love, war, passion, and justice. It is a fantastically gripping and beautiful story. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught — 2 years ago

This is easily my favorite historical romance novel. I literally could not put this book down as I was totally consumed (even if a little annoyed) by the constantly self-propelling plot. It is an emotionally intense work of fiction that will have its reader laughing, screaming, crying, and even swearing as they follow the lives of two people desperately in love.

A story about "THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald" — 2 years ago

...after reading this book I felt as though I had missed something; as though I had skipped a chapter or two and missed some vital part of the storyline. I really didn’t understand why it was considered such an incredible book. I guess I should read it again (maybe I did skip a chapter?)...

A story about "The House of the Seven Gables" — 2 years ago

...even after finishing this book I didn’t feel as though I had fully grasped its content. This book begs another reading…

Twelfth Night by Shakespeare — 2 years ago

Once again Shakespeare cradles his socio-political commentaries in the adorable and funny story (although often written in tragic overtones) of a twin brother and sister, the latter of which takes on a male identity in service of a Duke and subsequently falls in love with her master. Shakespeare’s genius hides itself in imagery and language and ultimately creates an intellectually challenging and enjoyable story.
