I was interested to read this as is by the daughter of one of my fave authors, Carol Shields. It was a good read, like listening to an old friend who you haven’t seen for ages bringing you up to date with their life.

I started this after I had seen the movie (which I loved). I really could not get interested in it knowing what the outcome was, so I didn’t finish it.

A most amusing book about two sisters and their aged father. Aged father marries a gold digging blond bomshell young enough to be his grandaughter!

Well made, atmospheric but very distressing.

I don’t usually read historical fiction, but have enjoyed some of Philippa Gregorys other novels and decided to give this a try. It is an engaging story, easy to read and gives an accurate insight into the period. I will look out for the follow on novel Virgin Earth.

On the whole I enjoyed this book, though I did get a bit bored in the middle of it. Not sure it was good enough to win a prize, will have to check out what the competition was that year.

I love William Boyds work, so I hope I am not disappointed with this book.
Update – A clever, delightfully funny and engaging book, can’t wait to read more by Boyd.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Beautiful prose and full of emotion. Yates has created characters that come to life and linger in the mind, brilliant.

Been to see TBS twice this year. Great music and I love the stage performance by Adam L!
