Dangerous Angels is a compilation of the five, excellent, Weetzie Bat stories. The stories are quite simply magical and lovely. Read them, you’ll thank yourself.

Carey, author of the Kushiel series, takes on mythology. In this, the first of a series, a world was sundered years ago during the seven Shapers war. One shaper was left on the world while the others fled to an island. A prophecy that could bring an end to the world is now in the process of being fulfilled.

Carey does a good job of introducing the characters and storyline – this takes up most of the book. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Stephen King’s take on hard boiled crime. I wouldn’t really consider this a hard boiled crime novel, but it’s a pretty decent take by King on mysteries.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

2/5 Stars

Very disappointing. This is the first book I’ve read by Christine Feehan and while I’m willing to try another just to see if it was one bad apple, I won’t try more than one more. My problem with this book was the characters and sex. The male (vampire) character was way too domineering but worse was the female character who basically just said “OK” to everything. The other problem was there was some kind of sex scene, seemingly, every 30 pages or so – TOOMUCH! Towards the end, I skimmed through the sex scenes because it had become boring. The only reason I give this book 2 stars is the “danger” plot that goes on in between everything else was OK. Overall, not recommended.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall…but was it an accident, suicide or possibly murder? That is the question that detectives Jack Spratt and Mary Mary must answer in the first book of Ffordes new Nursery Crime series. Although the book at times lags because of introductions, it’s a very clever start to the new series.

Very good story in the Women of the Supernatural series. In this one we follow Eve in the afterworld on an assignment from the fates to catch a wayward spirit. This is one of the best in the series.

Cute concept. Kate Connor is a former demon slayer – a la Buffy Summers – who is now a housewife with three kids, including a toddler. She thinks she’s safe until a demon comes through her kitchen window just hours before a big dinner party. So, she kills him and hides him in the pantry. It goes downhill from there.

Very clever story, really enjoyed it.

4/5 Stars

Cute interim story addition to the Betsy Taylor – Queen of the Vampires – saga. In this outing, Betsy has problems with her roomates, Sinclair (the hunky vampire king), and meets her – previously unknonwn – sister, the daughter of Satan. Funny as usual.

Fourth in the Women of the Otherworld series; second mostly featuring Paige Winterborne. Good continuation of previous book – Dime Store Magic. In this story, Paige ends up helping the Cabals – Mafia like groups of sorcerers – when their a serial killer starts attacking their children.
