Why I recommend "Shortbus (Unrated)" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The sex. yes. it’s real. and a lot of attention is focused on it. but it’s there because it’s part of the story. it was truly one of the sweetest and most delicate films i have seen in a long while. full of heart. exactly what als26 said: “totally a romantic comedy, but not an evil one”

I love that part in People Get Ready right after the lyric, “There ain’t no room for the hopeless sinner/Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own soul” where he adds “Believe me now.” It’s like that moment in God where John Lennon says “I don’t believe in Beatles” and all the music stops just before “I just believe in me.”

My friend Kathy lent this to me. I owe her one.

A story about "Someone to Drive You Home" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I heard the song Autonomy Boy and was completely entranced so I scraped together what little cash I had and bought this one which was the only title in the racks.

I went up to the register and the cashier commented on my selection and we started talking about old punk (gang of four, wire, old chicago punk) and high school before I had to leave because of the long line. A shy quiet and defiant boy defining his place in this world. I was flooded with memories and the image of holding albums, cassetes and later cds in my hands looking at them with awe as if their properties were magical (they are!). I felt suddenly protective of him as if he and my younger self were one in the same. How do you “cheer” someone in “real” life? You know? Keep on pushing….

I agree with rimesparse, it’s not derivatve at all. It makes me want to dance. Really jump up and just let loose. Hanif Kureishi once said, “You can’t dance to fiction.”

My favorite lyric from a song off the bonus disc:
“If you want to know me, watch how I dance.”

so lovely and intelligent and at times heartbreaking.

and, most importantly, so fierce.

WORTH CONSUMING!

First off, watching this movie capped just about a perfect day. It is one of those things you see that makes you stand up and realize the cynical way you shrug off things is completely wrong and the idea of possibility is alive.

It is worth checking out and for me, it is quite literally in my back yard, just a state away.

WORTH CONSUMING!

While I don’t think it’s as strong as the debut it is in many ways better because they are taking more risks. I think those risks are conscious choices to produce more challenging, longer lasting work.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had been waiting for this movie ever since I first heard about a year or two ago.

I know people’s first response is 6 hours!!! but I have to say this movie touched my heart in ways I cannot articulate. To watch a film that follows the length and breadth of a whole lifetime makes you step back and to borrow a phrase put on a wider lens.

To second what viridiana said, I am now a big fan of Ravel as well.
