Do people still think a 6 hour drum solo makes you tough?I’ve heard worse and some decent stuff but can’t really believe too many people listen to this today,songs inspired by Atlantis and legend, aye right think those days are long gone.

People are killed in car accidents,in falls,numerous accidents but John Lennon was murdered,so why not the Murder of John Lennon as a title?
It always makes me vomit when some arty director or lefty producer presents the story of some real life murderer,terrorist of other lowlife to show his side of the story,never the victims,to help us understand how behind the appearance of a heartless murderer is a misunderstood human being,I don’t care what about the victim?
So I was very wary of this,how can you not glamourise the main character?How can you not make us feel sympathy for this murderer?
The film manages to show a Chapman who while believable provokes no sympathy,beyond that you would show to anyone who has ruined their own lives.This is why, I believe, the brutal images of the murder of Lennon are acceptable,that is what Chapman did to Lennon and don’t forget it if you ever think he should be paroled.

Wow,actually fuck, me a film which makes a wannabe pedo seem sympathetic,who could write stuff like this except Alan Bennett?
I wonder why Bennett hasn’t been knighted yet,maybe he doesn’t want to?That’s another issue, this is a gem of movie because of his usual witty dialogues and the fine acting of everyone in it.
Of course nobody can really believe that a group of schoolboys could have accepted homosexuality so easily in the early 80s,a fruity teacher with wandering hands maybe but the ease with which classmates sexuality is accepted is farfetched,in Yorkshire?
Finally,checkout the head’s valedictory speech if you don’t find it hilarious you probably won’t agree with me that Bennett is a genius.

I don’t buy,I don’t know enough about psychology to understand how many women seem to accept being in abusive relationships and yes,seem to enjoy the pain,I don’t understand masochists and yes I have heard of the Stockholm syndrome,but I don’t buy this film because I’ve seen numerous documentaries and read many about concentration camps and other victims of oppression,for example in Argentina,and I’ve never once heard of a victim behaving like this.
In this isn’t telling me anything about the human condition all it comes down to is a fantasy,what someone wants to imagine as possible.Who dreamt up the cabaret scene?Max Mosselly or some other pervert?Concentration camps as erotica don’t do it for me,this is art?
Dirk Bogarde does look really good in a nazi uniform and the night porters uniform.
If you like beating women this is a film for you,if you think the holocaust was the low point in the history of humanity I’d give it a miss.

I’ve just reread this,I must admit it didn’t effect me as much as the first time.It is a remarkable a book because it allows you share Christy’s feelings and world,I’m surprised it doesn’t crop on more must read lists.

Just because this is anti-nazi and was a brave statement when made is no reason not to say that it’s awful.Satire?The pidgin German is not hilarious,it may have been once I have no idea,but now it’s cringeworthy,as are Chaplin’s funny walks and gestures.Can anyone let me know of one funny moment in the film?
