For some reason, I’ve gotten on a big Civil War history kick of late. Also reading a book on Quantrill’s raiders. Actually, I’ve started that book and haven’t gotten to this one yet, but I think I may jump Quantrill’s boat shortly and boared Booth’s. If you know what I mean. And I think you do.

I’ve always wanted to go on a philosophy-based crime spree, so this book is right up my alley.

I found this book pretty interesting, not just for the information about John Dee but for the look at the era in which he lived and how it compares to our own. How what we know as science was still emeshed in what we now think of as sorcery or hoo-ha or flim-flam. The now we’re protestant, no we’re catholic, now we’re protestant again monarchies and the resultant mass executions that resulted, etc. A fascinating read so far. Three thumbs up.

I have not read more than the first page of this book and the back cover, but this just might be the best book EVER.

I’m a fan of Martin Cruz Smith’s Arkady Renko series of detective novels. Just started reading this on the plane back from Atlanta yesterday. This time, Renko is exiled to Chernoybl, but even before that happens, strange things are afoot. I am enjoying this look at modern post-Communist, post-Wild Wild West Russia.

Recently picked this up at the library and have started reading it. I’m not as enamored of Walter Mosely’s work as some are, but I am interested to see where he goes with this premise.
