I am a HUGE fan of pop history, if that’s even a phrase. Sex With Kings is a fun weekend read on the sordid history of queendom, their reproductive expectations and powerful royalty and their sexual proclivities – all tied in with power, politics and intrigue.

I picked up this book on recommendation of a history podcast called ‘What You Missed in History Class’ – they cover a huge chunk of different historical topics and used this as a reference to one of their stories about kings and their mistresses.

It’s a bit soap opera-y, but an interesting look into the realities of life in court – un-candy coated stories we all may vaguely remember hearing about in school. Fun!

This book came into my reading queue at just the right time. We’ve been eating vegan and increasingly raw for a while now so reading a hip little book advocating some of that lifestyle is a nice fit.

Skinny Bitch is definitely not a book for every gal – particularly if you’re the kind of gal who gets offended by vulgar profanity and descriptive chapters of slaughterhouses.

To be honest, the vulgarity sometimes got a bit old and repetitive. While the messaging and general ideas definitely worked they definitely could be re-packaged a bit better. I get the whole ‘trying to be edgy’ thing and obviously it worked – I picked it up just for kicks and it was worth it.

Actually, the Master Cleanser hasn’t completely changed my life yet but it’s got me on the right path.

This book is, obviously, a must-read for anyone about to embark on a Master Cleanse (aka: lemonade diet… but I abhor most phrases that involve the word ‘diet’ as I feel like it’s always taken the wrong way…). Author and Master Cleanse founder Stanley Burroughs is quite brilliant, although I took some of the philosophy with a grain of salt but it’s really not over the top, like Dr. Bronner’s soap bottles or anything similar :).

What you don’t find in the book is real, actionable ‘how-to’ instruction. I mean, it’s there but it’s kind of muddled. I’m a ‘give it to me direct, straight and multiple times’ kind of girl — so I’m relying on other sources to really guide me through our upcoming cleanse.

No worries though, this was a great book and very quick/easy read.

It’s a love story with a lot of sex, but not the kind of movie sex that last for 30 seconds with celebrity actors under sheets. That is, the incredibly yawn-inducing kind…

Instead you get a compelling story with real people who seem genuinely attracted, interested and engaged with each other. Shortbus is a super story – sometimes witty, sometimes a little sad, sometimes hitting a little close to home on numerous levels; but certainly something worth watching (and probably re-watching).

And yeah, lots and lots of skin. Which can’t be a bad thing right?

I downloaded the Tease! album when trying to prepare for an upcoming burlesque drawing club in Houston called Dr. Sketchy (www.houstonsketchy.com).

Not only did it get our entire group in a cheeky burlesque frame of mind, it’s just an all-around solid album whether you’re needing something amazing to listen while at home doing mundane chores at home or, you know, being your sassy self. Good times, great music.
