Mistry is by far one of the best story tellers of our time. My passion for India only grew deeper reading his novel(s). He shows us India.
This is an alltime Canadian Classic, one that I have read at least 5 times. Once in highschool, one in university, at least 3 times in between then and now… yah, I loved it. A powerful woman’s story.
Read it!
For anyone who hasn’t read anything Canadian Literature (and seeing the English Patient does NOT count :) ) READ THIS BOOK!
Wonderful wonderful – as all canadian women authors are.
A great place to start!
This beast of a paperback was actually thicker than it was wide, and heavy heavy on the arms if you like to read in bed like I do. I love a good epic, especially one that dives into the families, traditions and culture of India so well. His descriptions of the scenes pull the reader into the book, hearing the music and feeling the sensations of any simple scene.
Loved it – but it was long (1500 pages!!)
Although for some reason I read it in Grade 7. Grade 7? Come on… a tad heavy don’t you think for 13 year olds?Although I remember loving Bradbury after that, I’ll be re-reading it again; somehow I think I might get more out of it 20 years later :)
Every preteen kid should read this series. I still remember the magic of the Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe…
Even though I hated reading this in 9th grade, I’m glad I did. I generally just find Dickens, well, just too much. I get bored.
This is definitely a book I will re-read as well. I loved the epic feel it and the method used to tell the long story.
A note to all teenagers being forced to read this, or any other Shakespeare classic. Read it, you will be happy you did in the long run! I am :)
We learn more than we think from Shakespeare…
