Upside Down is a sci-fi fantasy love story — 15 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I saw a preview of the movie last night and I like the story a lot like a fantasy akin to the masterpieces of Brazil, Dark City, and Blade Runner. In the version I saw there were little story problems, but nothing major. The only thing I couldn’t figure out is why the story began with so much heavy narration that it was annoying. If I were Solanas, I would either used something like the wonderful montage intro of UP, or the fast paced narration of Amelie or just a few flashbacks of the childhood to explain the universe instead. Also the theme music was a bit overused. It was fine for the love scenes, but I was thinking something more like ELO or Chemical Brothers would have fit on beautifully with the urban theme of the worlds. It was a wonderful movie, but it could be even better!

Confessions of a Shopaholic — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I saw a lot of negative reviews about this movie, but Ishla Fisher as Rebbecca is so cute, I just saw this movie as standard Hollywood popcorn fare with actually a good message about our lives being so dependent on material things. Since I know people in real life that have problems like the characters in the movie, it was not that far a stretch to picture this in real life, abet with to Hollywood twists to give us the happy ending. I recommend watching this film.

Sixteen Candles — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this movie a lot when it first came out. Watching it again with my son it felt a bit dated. It’s funny how a movie like Ferris Beuller held up so good over time and this one didn’t. It’s worth it to watch just to see a young John and Joan Cusack acting nerdy back in the day. And Molly Ringwald is just adorable, having the worst day in the world after everyone forgets her birthday.

Enchanted — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t really think I would be able to get into yet another Disney movie now despite the recommendations of friends, but I was wrong. Very smartly written, animated, acted, and directed, and Amy Adams is just perfect in the part of Giselle. It was easy to fall in love with Enchanted and also Susan Sarandon as the evil witch. I’m planning to watch it again to play the D-Zone trivia game which is within the film on the Blue-ray version of the film. Gotta love Blue-ray!

Comic sillyness — 1 year ago

I put off watching this for a long time because the previews I had seen looked too much like a comic book adaptation. And now that that I saw the movie, it was exactly that. I’m sure this was the directors dream to make this movie, but it just wasn’t interesting, had a cliche every minute and ultimately just felt like a very bad clone of so many good movies that have been made before. Even my kids were bored and didn’t want to watch any more. The production values were very good with nice special effects, but ultimately the story was a big letdown and thus the movie.

The Warriors - Iconic New York — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I watched The Warriors online with my Netflix account. Definitely not an art film, but stylistically a very clean film and a good example for any first time director/producer on how to make a movie. Moving location to location, the Warriors try to get home after the leader of all the gangs is killed. The costumes each gang wears distinguishes them as well as entertains the audience. Memorable line: “Warriorssssss, come out to play-aaaaa”

Pretty Woman — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Yes, it’s a fairy tail dressed in a hooker’s clothing, but it is so fun to watch and Julia Roberts is so likable that it just works. Richard Gere is charming and Hector Alonzo is brilliant. When watching it again, I just noticed there are just so many little things that make this movie so charming despite the fact that it’s about a lifestyle that is mostly very degrading and abusive to women. I love this movie.

Risky Business — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Certainly another classic film from my era, but doesn’t beat the John Hughs films that came out at the same time. As a sort of middle class male fantasy, it’s entertaining, but ultimately because it’s more fantasy than reality, I think it set quite a few peoples expectations too high causing the greed that permeates business and government now. Was that too deep? LOL

Great movie...great pool scenes — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

No doubt this is another classic of teenage angst and coming of age. This movie is awesome in both the way it portrays comically the very real problems of adolescence, yet being realistic in the ways that teenagers often cope with their problems. Phobe Cates and Jennifer Jason Leigh are simply immortal in this movie. I love Judge Reinhold’s character too…he’s basically playing me 25 years ago.

Oliver - a fantastic musical which everyone should see — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The film version of the broadway musical is one of the most best musicals on film I have ever seen. Songs like “I’d Do Anything” and “Pick a pocket or two” make me smile every time I hear them. This movie is a classic in every sense of the word and a MUST see film.
