A story about "The Dragon Waiting: A Masque of History" — 5 years ago
I like alternate history yarns, especially if they’re about the Roman Empire. This one’s got vampires too.

Everyone writes about Singularity these days. Vinge, who actually invented the concept, is the only one who does it with refreshing originality.
Could easy have been an “oh God, not another Singularity rehash,” but is, fortunately, more like what would happen if William Gibson were Salman Rushdie.
As funny as Wodehouse and as saucy as Wilde, and sharper than either.
Oops, yet another Singularity story. A decent read nevertheless.
A very clever idea and highly entertaining – in fact, a brilliant book and a definite must read – but hardly the pinnacle of 21st century SF it’s been hyped up to be.
Huge and slow, but very much worth the effort.
Captivating, perfectly readable, one of the classics of our century.
Could be the best fantasy series since Amber or the worst thing Stross ever wrote. It’s impossible to tell which after only the first book, but I prefer to remain optimistic.
Very disappointing when compared to the sequel. Isn’t that a novelty?
