A story about "When She Was White: The True Story of a Family Divided by Race"

My. Word. I want to comment but it leaves me speechless, mostly with tears in my eyes.

Why I gave up consuming "The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears"

The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears

by Dinaw Mengestu

I haven’t totally but I’m pretty disappointed by the book. It’s well-written and skillful but not that compelling. The main character/narrator feels too passive to me. I can understand the choice of him not having a real affair, or real intimacy, with his neighbor but it’s also very anti-dramatic and antithetical to page-turning. I keep feeling bored. And I hope to all the powers in the universe that my own novel is not this formulaic and bland.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America"

Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America

by John M. Barry

I love it every time I read it but I am just too busy to keep up with it. Reading one paragraph or so a day is not the way to handle a book like this.
